I think all of us realize none of this criticism is suprising. DS has issues. That is all that needs to be said.

If the criticism is true, this does not say much for those who are coaching and associated with program. Why would it be necessary to berate any athlete? How does the use of the F word make them preform better? If the young athletes were acting cocky, I can see cutting them down a notch but the F word hardly works.  Most of these kids are very motivated to begin with so why tear them down? Winning a summer game can not be that important.

Reading my post again it could be interpreted that I don't support summer programs for high school athletes. I do but I think it is getting out of hand. AAU coaches can really extend their power over kids and IMO often use this to their advantage, the coaches I mean. This is only one of the problems I have seen. It often isn't about the kids.

I agree MD that the over specialization for HS kids has gotten out of hand. But it is not just athletics. My son is in marching band and beginning Aug 1, they have practice from 6:45 to 4:30 every day. Plus each section has at least one evening session a week. Kids these days are asked to specialize so early, even in determing which "tract" that they want to take in regards to classes. To make his science tract work and be able to stay in band, summer school is the only way. The idea of a "well rounded" student has long ago been put to rest, and I think it does not help our society. Off my soap box now.

When I was in high school (1990-94), I was involved in Marching Band, Jazz Band, Football, Wrestling, Draman, Chorus, and even Drama and FFA for a year each.

How many kids can do that now?
              I am Ed. Fear me.

Not sure, my kids are 4, 2 and brand new. My oldest participates in gymnastics, dance and swimming right now. None too seriously, all just a chance to get exposed.

I was in HS from 87-91. Small high school in SD. I participated in Basketball, Football, Track, Golf, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Chorus, Swing Chorus, Baseball (not HS affiliated), Church groups, etc... I couldn't have imagined focusing only on one or even two sports/activities.
