    Re: 06-07 Roster

One more guess at the starters:
    1. Hornby
    2. Cadwell
    3. Williams
    4. Bassett
    5. Engren or Blitz (maybe Berte)
Loney is first off the bench, getting as much time as anyone filling in for all the big guys.
Callahan next off the bench, filling in for the guards, followed by Kleinjan.
Retaining Berte or the quick development of Bassett or Cordova is crucial. Loney can't be the only big banger near the basket.
With plenty of depth at guard, keeping the ball moving crisply will be a strength. Stopping the other team's 4 and 5 guys will be the big challenge.

i hate to say it but there is really zero depth at the 4 and 5 spots. we need to start recruiting good solid big men like past years when we had a lot of sucess. you can't lean on the 2 big guys or mikey for playing 35 minutes a game. 2 more guys over 6'9" and built with a nice frame would be nice to see recruited after this next year.

Funny thing is, there aren't a lot of 6'9" guys with talent or build out there. There isn't a college basketball team in the nation who couldn't say they could use a couple 6'9" guys with a good build. There's a reason why all the mid majors you see in the NCAA tourney win on guard play, it's because they don't have the size to match up with the Florida's or the UConn's of the world.

I know nothing about the signing, other than his height, I was told he was 6-5 or 6-6 so I would guess he would be a 2, 3 or 4. He apparently is a JuCo player.

I hope he is a 4. If not we are looking at a 3-guard offense. I would be okay with that, too. I suspect this means both Mo and Dre are gone for good. Notice I said suspect. It seems pretty certain Andre won't be back, now unlikely Mo will return either.

With this addition(and not counting Mo or Dre), i count 12 players on scholarship for 2006-07. That means we could add one more, or one of the forementioned may still return, or we may pocket that last schollie to use for 07-08. Hard to say.

good news and possibly bad news. for guards its bad news cuz i think we might see guards leaving the team if they dont get much playing time. good news if he is a forward provides us more depth for williams and loney and the other 3, 4, and 5 position players.

This (apparent) signing is encouraging news. I, too, hope the new guy plays the 4. And I hope he has a couple of years of juco or college experience under his belt to help steady a talented, young team. Now, if the Jacks could keep Mo, the team might be in pretty decent shape. Of course, to keep Berte (or Gilbert), that never-ending investigation would actually have to end, probably. Regardless of Berte or Gilbert, the outlook is getting brighter.

This apparent signing is no news until we know who the Jacks allegedly signed. He could be a bum, or he could be a steal like our last recruit Kai Williams. It does concern me if he is a juco as most quality jucos are signed by the NLI day.
