I know the death of his father affected him deeply, as it would anyone.  He almost didn't come back for his Jr. season.  Best of luck to Ben.

A tough decision for a young man to make . . . I suspect it may be the right one for him, though.

Thanks, and good luck, Ben . . .

Is Gilbert for sure not returning? I know him and Mo are still on campus, but I have not heard their plans. I hope Nagy and Larson have known this for awhile and are hitting the Juco's hard.

Dang. This run of misfortune just never seems to stop for the mens basketball program. I certainly hope things work out and Gilbert and Berte come back. Meanwhile, Nagy and Larson have a lot of work to do to replace Beran.

I know the coaches have known about Ben for awhile. I found out in the middle of March from a reliable source, but did want to post until it became public knowledge. I wish Ben the best also.

There has been a lot of off the board talk about Ben of the past month or so.  Ben earned enough respect over the last 3 years to have an official announcement rather than message board gossip. I wish he was coming back but I also wish him luck in whatever he does.

Best of luck to Ben and his family. He played without his heart in the game last year and just couldn't do it again this year. It is in the best interest of the team that Ben is ending his career at SDSU. Very talented player and an even better kid from a great family.

                        Re: Ben Beran

big ben is an awesome guy i wouldn't wanna mess with him in a dark alley. he had a lot of struggles this year, and it's good he decided to put his education and family first. something we don't see a lot in the world of d1 athletics. so i guess that means we have another scholarship opening for the team :question :question lots of underclassmen on the team the next couple of years. have we went the NDSU way? anyways best of luck to ben and his future.

I was at lunch about 2 weeks ago and I heard Ben say he was not returning for next year. I wish he would have returned for his senior year, but I respect him for putting his education first. I wish him the best with the rest of his time at SDSU and in the future.

                            Re: Ben Beran

I'm syphathetic to Ben's situation, but I feel there is a bad trend of players not completing their committments to SDSU regardless what level we are playing at. SDSU does not have a history of revoking scholarships like some schools when we probably should have. Could be another long year with no experience in the backcourt.
