Since when does first team include 7 players?

I only see six players listed. Five plus the Player of the year.

        Oops, my mistake.

Although it still seems a little odd, but maybe that's the way its done everywhere.

Here is TV's story on the state of the men's BB team and the injury bug that has hit them early.

Yikes, without AD, this year could be longer than last. I hope not, but after Anthony, we have little or nothing is the post. Poor Kai may have to spend even more time down low.

We are so undersized for a DI school. I happened to be looking at the roster of in-state school Northern State and look how much bigger they are than the Jacks.

Makes you wonder what the staff is or isn't thinking about. At least it makes me wonder. Going to be an interesting season, I think.

I'm doing my best to remain positive, but my fear is, it will be something other than "interesting".

Granted we don't know how talented those big guys are and size doesn't always mean wins, but it doesn't hurt to have some depth in the paint.

Here's my question to the basketball people here. Is size really that important? I don't remember too many games last year where SDSU played a team with anyone bigger than 6'9 or 6'10 and that was likely only one player.

It would seem to me that the coaching staff is looking for 6'7 or 6'8 kids with ability and then if they grow an inch or two by their junior year they win. How that plays out will be determined in a year or two.

I think we should be more worried that the team has someone that can bring the ball up the court and distribute it.

Kai playing down low might not be such a bad deal. With his mentality an offense that gets him a look down low and then swings him out to the 3pt line might be just the recipe for Kai to take over games.

Now again, I am not a real astute basketball observer and don't really know that much about the game. This is just me chucking one up from the cheap seats.

Re: Oral Roberts picked to win conference

I think I'm with EQGuy on this one. It seems like the D1 college game is moving more in the direction of 6'6" to 6'8" athletic slashers and shooters and away from a center-dominated game. Of course that's probably in large part due to a shortage of athletic bigs out there. No doubt that 7-footer on Northern's roster can play enough D to get by in D2, but what would happen if he was confronted with a 6'9" athletic big guy from ORU or IUPUI? I'm thinking they'd run circles around him.

But what do I know. I trust Coach Nagy and his staff (remember, we have Austin Hansen back this year!).

What I would like to see, though, is a different attitude/mindset among the players. If we could bottle the competitiveness of AJ's women's team and feed it to the men, I'm guessing it would be worth some wins. That's not to say we don't have some extremely competitive players on the men's team, but I think anybody who has seen AJ's teams play knows what I'm talking about. They're relentless and seemingly immune to ever dwelling on anything bad that happens during the game. They just turn around, get in the opponents' faces, and bang them around. It's really impressive.
                          Holy nutmeg!

Re: Oral Roberts picked to win conference

Winning games certainly generates confidence and I think creates more energy for the players. It is easier not to dwell on anything bad when the final outcome is usually a win (for the ladies). Our men did not play with a great deal of confidence the second half of last year. We do have decent talent on the men's team and they are all a year older. Hopefully, their experiences from last year will translate into more wins this year. I think we have the talent to finish in the middle of the pack in the Summit. Larger crowds at the games wouldn't hurt these young men either, but they are going to have to win some games to get the fans back

I love watch our women play. They beat teams that have better players and that are more athletic. How do they do this? They out work them........they never quit.....ever.

Our men could use this attitude.....I think the effort has been lacking in the last few years.
