    Re: SWMS game thread

Blake Yackley is going to have to contribute underneath this year, too. The coach referred to two or three prospective starters not being available for the Southwest Minnesota game. I presume he was referring to Callahan and Loney and either Brandon or Yackley, though I didn't hear Brandon's name specifically mentioned in post-game remarks (or Bilitz's). Ryan Hoogeveen didn't play Tuesday night either. Is he being redshirted? The nine guys who were dressed and warmed up all played Tuesday night.

Brandon was not there because of family issues. I spoke to Loney after the game and he said he should be ready on Sunday. Deep thigh bruise. Kai reminded one alot of Matt Jones. Kai is a good leaper and gets off the ground quickly. Looks as though he has played a couple seasons already.

        My take on the game:

It seemed as though the crowd wasn't into the game at all. Someone had made a post in this thread earlier about not caring and I had made a comment about the same thing while I was sitting in the student section during the game. I thought once Cadwell got really competitive with about 8 or so minutes left the game finally started to be a little more interesting and fun to watch. Obviously it's just Marshall but I think we still have a ton of work to do to get people there. I wasn't here during the DII years but I did make it to a few games and it would be fantastic to be around that kind of atmosphere again.

Kai is amazing and Cadwell is just Cadwell. He do what he do. He hits that shot in a big time game I'm rushing the court with the rest of the crowd. Can't wait to see him do it again. But those two should be touching the ball every time down the court. And I understand that it is an exhibition game but for in the future. I'd really like to see Kai get more vocal and more competitive. If you remember SDSU players from a few years ago they really resemble kids like Cadwell because they are so mentally tough and competitive. They play to win! And again, that will take time with him being a freshmen but hopefully by the end of the season he's there.

I was really impressed with Bassett. He's definitely strong enough to play and he plays hard. Nothing more fun to watch than that. He's undersized but he'll definitely help. I'd really like to see what Bradon can do too. Loney will be Loney too. He's only a junior this year and that's a big help because we'll have him this year and next so have time to recruit some more big guys. Mark is a work in progress but he's offensively gifted, which we didn't see last night but he'll be better. Klomp and him played eachother in HS so I'm sure it was tough for him to go down like that.

You could also tell our offense was really out of sync at times and we didn't more the ball well. But that happens. You have guys out, guys playing in different positions. We'll get better and so will our defense hopefully because we were slow to the ball and not aggressive. But WE'LL GET BETTER!

One more thing...being that Callahan isn't going to be back for 4 weeks...do you redshirt him and save him for the NCAA tournament days???

          My take of the game.

Kai Williams played 38 minutes, had a quiet 18 points, quiet on the boards. The kid is willing to give up the ball for better opportunites, he is a team player. He passed up a couple shots for getting the ball inside to open players. The kid will be fun to watch.

Caddy little playing time, good stats, hero of the game. His line was 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Caddy was willing to pass up shots to get others involved. Hit the big shots when it mattered.

Kleinjan played good a quiet 10 but productive.

Frias and Mack played scrappy defense and provided a emotional boost to the guys when they were on the court.

Engen looked rusty but will develop a quiet night but we'll see him develop over the year.

Bassett kinda reminded me of Fischer and Meister downlow pushing guys around, plus he can score, will be a fun guy to watch.

Cam looks to be still developing and needs to get familiar with things more.

Rebounding will be a tough part of the year, and we need to get going on that. Turnovers will be important and seeing if we can keep those down.

Good game overall, fun to cheer for. Hopefully the troops stay ready for 40 minutes of hell all year long.

I believe Hoogeveen may be gone....how about Cordova? Is he just not listed b/c he's ineligible right now, or is he gone also?

What's the story on Hoogeveen? Why would he have left so quickly, you usually see walk-ons stick it out as they don't come in with huge expectations from the start...

                Re: SWMS game thread

When I saw Bassett during midnight madness, I saw a big rebounder. I was impressed with his scoring last night too.

Kia is very smooth out on the floor. These two will play good together.

Cadwell got a little mouthy at the end and I was surprised he didn't get a technical.

We need to get some more healthy players. Can't rely on Cadwell, Bassett, and Kia to do all the scoring and rebounding.

Was really hoping Callahan would be heathy for the season. This guy is going to be good.

Andy missed some shots but it was nice to see him score. Maybe he can keep his injuries down this year and get to play some good minutes.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

No clue on Hoogeveen. Cordova not eligibile so not on the roster. Best as I know things are on track for him.

I don't have absolute confirmation, but not sure Cordova is still in school.

Thats interesting, I didn't ask Nagy about him this weekend. I figured that info would come to light when appropriate. Cadsev have any insight?

When Nagy was on Sports Talk Cordova was brought up. Nagy commented that he is not eligible but has been playing in some open gyms with the players. This was as of Tuesday at 4.

He is in school, just can't officially participate with the team due to grades. For all I know, he is still in school.

                            Not sure about Hoogeven though.
