How did we give up the ball. My wife just called and said A&M made a 3 to go up and win by 4. 70-66.

        Re: Alabama A&M

This was one win (in a season where there won't be many) that got away. I think the better team won. At least the better team at this point in the season. Both teams will improve as the season progresses (they better).

Nice performances by Andy K, Bassett, and Williams (hitting the boards). Cadwell will be great again this year. Loney seemed solid and Yackley contributed. Engen just didn't seem to be a factor/help at all.

Need to make free throws and rebound, every point and posession is crucial to this team. Hard to play that way, especially 3 days in a row.

Back at it early tomorrow. I trust the guys will be cheering on the FB team.

Cadwell drove for a layup but missed. they rebounded, took it down used alot of clock then sunk a 3

You know, it's kind of funny that I'm really not that down about this game. They guys bounced back from the Kent State game pretty well, but they just couldn't close the deal. This team will get better as the season moves on.

Yackley had 12 boards, can't wait til he gets his legs back.

                    Kleinjan:
We're lucky, we get to play again tomorrow.
                    I love that attitude!

                    Nagy:
There's a million things you can look back to, 4-12 at the free throw line, there's only so much you can work on in three weeks of practice. I've done them a disfavor that we've put in so much, our young guys are a bit confused. I should have put in a few things and really went at them. We really haven't spent much time working on a zone. We shot 49% and played good defense, but you give up 15 rebounds you don't win many games. If you're going to be result-based, you're not going to be happy. We're working toward being a better team by Christmas.

When we get Garrett back, it will be unbelievable what a difference it will make. You can say we're young, but they were young too. The zone took its toll, and we didn't rebound like we need to.

We were able to get it inside, but they had a 6-11 kid inside. Most of our 3's were good shots, fortunately Andy shot it very well. We're just not very big right now. I was looking at it last night, on scholarship, we have 4 players sophomore-junior-senior. When you have kids that have been in your system 2,3,4 years, they have the experience for the late-game situations.

I take the blame for putting too much in, maybe being over-prepared.

Blake's legs just aren't there yet. For us to expect him to shoot like he's capable of--it's just not going to happen yet. He's trying to play himself back into shape but that's hard to do. We need Kai to step up and be a bigger player for us. Again, you're asking a true freshman to step up and that's hard to do.

Bassett is one of the best big-man passers we've had in a long time. It's a luxury to have a big guy like that.

Both VMI and Princeton are better than Alabama A&M, our only advantage is we played a couple hours before them. Both are disciplined.

I told the team, ask yourself what one thing you could have done that you didn't do, would have made a difference. There are a lot of things I screwed up today, but we're getting better, and that's the goal. If we stay positive, good things will happen for us.

                      Re: Alabama A&M

Filberts summary much better than mine.

                      Nagy being very patient.

Says we weren't ready for the zone.

Didn't get to the hole, didn't get to the line and when we did we didn't make FTs.

Can't wait to get Garrett back.  Christmas remains his target.

Understands the young guys will take some time.  Happy with Kai in the first half but wanted him to step up in the 2nd.  Very pleased with Bassett.

I think Coach has a good perspective.  He said this team can't get up or down based on one game because each game will be a new challenge regardless of the previous result.

Thinks either team they get tomorrow will be a stronger team than A&M.

I agree. Things are tough right now, but this will be a totally different team by the end of the year. Because of the youth on this team, there is going to be a lack of consistency. They all show bright spots here and there, and with time they all have the potential to make this a solid program again.

I can't wait to get Callahan back. Coach Nagy really thinks highly of him, and having a true point will help everyone out on offense.

We only have 4 scholarship players in their soph, junior, senior year. That is huge. This team has so much potential, its scary.

Man, it does appear to be a down year for you guys. Alabama A&M is never a good team (lost by around 40 to IUPUI), and are considered a low low-major, though it is good to see you competed in this game. This year appears to be a rebuilding year, is it?

More of a re-re-re-building year. We're awfully, awfully young due to any number of very unfortunate circumstances. But I think we'll be ready to compete for the Mid-Con conference title and a tournament berth when we become eligible in 2008-09--that's what we're working toward now.

Do I have to post some "Nagy's not my coach" type of thread in order for this team to have a good year. Seemed to work pretty well for the FB team
