This is certainly good news for the team. I'm not so sure it wouldn't be better for Callahan and the future to have him redshirt.
I couldn't disagree more--I think redshirting Callahan would be exactly the wrong message to send to the team and to the fans. This program needs to start showing progress immediately. So far, in two D-I seasons and change, it has shown the opposite of progress.
That's gotta change. If Callahan's the impact player that Nagy thinks he is, then he's got to be on the court with the rest of the youngsters as much as possible and as soon as it's medically reasonable for him to play.
I also hope he is the impact player that Nagy says he is, however IMHO I saw something out of Casey on Thursday night that shows me he has another level that I didn't think he was capable of. I think him and Frias can share time at the point and allow Cadwell to play his more natural position and Callahan another year to get stronger and prepare for our inaguaral season in the Mid-Cont. Will we win a few more games with a healthy Callahan? I would assume yes, but at what cost if he reinjures his hand. Let's face it we need a future more horses and I'm sure some of those pieces will be added next year.
It'll be good to see Callahan take the floor at Frost next Monday. I'm glad that his hand healded soon enough to make a redshirt decision unnecessary. I just don't want fans to view Callahan as the "savior" of the basketball program this season. The entire team needs to gel together and get some seasoning before we can expect to be competitive when we join the Mid-Con.
Facts are Facts. And the fact is Garrett will be starting before to long and the team will be improving and taking pressure off Caddy. And if the players I've talked to in past conversations say Garrett will take off a lot of pressure to perform, then I see no reason to redshirt him, let him make a impact now. And congrats to me on making my 1,000th post on the board. Now Lets get some wins this week Rabbits.
After this football season, I'm going to accept whatever the coaches decide! I think Coach Nagy had already determined Callahan was going to play this year and once that decision was made, at this early stage, when he's recovered from the hand injury, he goes into the game and the team can function as it had practiced for weeks.
