  • UW-Milwaukee Game

This game is looking like the battle of the beatens. I will be at the game with my 3 nephews (visiting for Turkey day) and my oldest daughter. I will be stubbornly rooting for the Jacks despite the fact we were beat by 30 the last time I was in the gym for the UWM game 2 years ago.

I will say this, we match up well with the UWM team. They are about the same size as us without any real size to worry about. They have the Paulson kid playing the 4, when he's really a 3, because of the lack of overall height. Even better, they are less experienced that SDSU, if you can believe that. The only player on their team with any career starts prior to this season was Paige Paulson and that was when he played for Norther Illinois (9 career starts). They're not particularly talented and won't outquick us like they did so emphatically the last 2 seasons. I think our guard play (hoping the PG from Ill is playing) should be able to make some noise. If we make some shots early and grab a lead we may actually be able to win this game. I'll stop short of saying we should win, but we should have as good of shot as any this game to get a W.

Anyone besides me going to be at the game?

I won't be at the game (getting ready to head to the Bahamas, dontcha know), but I admit my interest level in the game is up with the possibility that Callahan (aka "The Saviour" ) might be able to play.

I vote Callahan changes his last name to Shuttlesworth ala He Got Game.

Is that poor kid even going to be able to have an impact right away? He hasn't played for about 3 weeks, and we are expecting him to come in and put up 20 points immediately? I think thats a little crazy.

I don't think callahans impact will come via him scoring 20 points, but by his leadership and consistant play at the point. Controlling game tempo, getting players involved, and not turning the ball over is what he should bring to the team.

If he reduces the turnovers by a couple per game, increases the assists by a couple per game, and takes a bit of defensive pressure off of Cadwell, I'll be more than happy.

I'm told that the whole "Callahan can walk on water, turn fish into loaves of bread and water into wine" thing is the subject of some teasing humor within the team itself, or so I hear. I'm just having a little bit more fun with it.

Mainly, I just want to see our 2008-09 Mid-Continent Conference Championship team players all get on the court and play together for a couple of solid years.

According to the UWM game notes, we'll be starting another three-game series with the Panthers next year, so we'll be seeing them on the schedule through 2009.

The Panthers are having difficulties with their inside game so far this year, and are only 1-4, with a team that is, if anything, younger than SDSU's.

The optimist in me sees this as a winnable game for the Rabbits, especially if Callahan plays (kneels on the floor and genuflects towards Seneca, Illinois, burning an incense stick...all hail Callahan! all hail Callahan! all hail Callahan!) .

(I'm not laying it on a bit too thick on the Callahan thing, am I?) ;D

I think I'll by my wife "You, Me and Dupree" on DVD so she can watch it on our drive home tomorrow night and then I'll be able to listen to the Jacks game. It makes the trips go much faster when I have a game to listen to.

After a day of riding the bus to Milwaukee yesturday, the guys are ready for a tough game. In what might be the debut game for Garrett, the Jacks take on a struggling UW-Milwaukee team that played a good game at Frost last year. Both teams are looking for their first win, coach Nagy is probably looking for a solid 40 minutes put in by his players. I look forward to listening to this game tonight and hope the Rabbits have an A performance after playing these guys tough the last two times we've faced them.

I'll give my impressions and thoughts after the game. Won't be able to probably post them until Friday after the Turkey settles. Considering my company at the game is going to be my 7, 6 and 4 year old nephews along with my 3 year old daughter, I may not be able to focus 100% on the game, but I'll do my best. Also, my seats are going to be right next to UWM Coach Jeter's wife and all the main boosters of UWM (boss hooked me up with his tickets). I imagine I'm going to catch some flack for being decked out in Jackrabbit blue. It will all be worth it when the Jacks win.

Leading Scorer is Out For UW-Milwaukee tonight. This might be a sign of things to come for the Jacks tonight.

                            Casey gets a start.

                            Callahan will play.

                            UWM's leading scorer isn't suited up tonight--no reason given to Imming . . .
