  • Jacks @ UNI Friday

I know that they have a game against UW-Milaukee first, but just thought I'd start a thread about the UNI game.

It's the day after Thanksgiving against a very good mid-major team. Cedar Falls is only about 4 hours away, and best of all, the game will be in the newly contstructed McCleod Center.

Here are some pictures of the new facility.

Anyone else making the trip down to Cedar Falls for this game?

For those not making the trip, www.unipanthers.com is giving free access to their videos of the games - not sure if this will still be free Friday, but it is free for the Wisconsin-Milwaukee/UNI game right now.

Thanks for the link. I'll probably be on the road back home Friday night after the holiday. On call Wednesday and Saturday so no chance to make the trip to WI or IA. I'll either be listening to Steve in the truck or listening to Steve at home while I watch the UNI webcast.

Nice find gojacksgo. I am going to have a houseful of people for the weekend. I think I will sneak away for a moment and check out the Jacks.

          Re: Jacks @ UNI Friday

The UW-Milwaukee v. UNI game was on TV here yesterday afternoon. At halftime they did a tour of the new UNI facility. WOW! That place is amazing. It is truly top notch. 23 million dollars is the figure they threw around in the broadcast. The locker rooms looked like something out of the NBA. It's connected directly to the dome from the looks of the outside shots. The gym is also pretty sweet with the court completely surrounded by a bowl of seats. It's kind of what I envision the Frost would look like if they bowled it in, but the Frost would probably have more seating with the top level seating.

As for the game, UNI has 2 really good players in the post which does not bode well for the Jacks. Their best player is a 6'8" lefty who ran the floor really well. He routinely beat the smaller UWM players down the court for easy buckets. UNI ended up winning pretty handily. Off the bench for UNI is a 7'1" true frosh who was decent and could be a stud in a couple years. We'll need to play inspired ball to win this one.

Panther (UNI) fan here. I wanted to provide some info on the webcast. The 'free trial period' for the webcasts was over on Tuesday. You now have to either have a yearly subscription or order a month's worth for $7. Really, $7 to watch the game, which has been a high quality webcast, is worth it, IMO. I think that UNI plays SDSU in women's basketball too within the month, so I think you could probably watch the women's game too. For those driving around, UNI games can be heard on 1540AM (can be heard via automobile from Columbus, OH to Montana at nights). Although, I know SDSU's radio signal stretches a good distance too, its something to think about for those of you unable to pull in the Jacks' play-by-play team. Hopefully, there will be several of you at the game, as I'm looking forward to my second trip to the new arena. Thanks for the kind words on the new arena from MilwaukeeJacksAlum. It's been a long time, but UNI finally has a fantastic arena. The volleyball game Saturday night had over 5,000 in attendance to watch UNI clinch sole possession of the MVC title. On Tuesday, 5,800 watched the UNI wrestling team almost upset the #5 Iowa Hawkeyes (lost 18-15). So, it should be a great atmosphere come Friday night. See you all there

              PTTB,

How many people does the stadium hold? I'd love to drive down to the game if nothing else to see what the place looked like up close. I think we're going to have our hands full tonight. If I wasn't going out to eat with the family, I'd buy the webcast and watch.

Good Luck, Jacks! Let's get that first win!

Holds 7000 I believe - they planned it before the Panthers got to be one of the top mid-major programs. It's top of the line though.

I'm taking off in an hour for the game.

19 minutes til game time, I got WNAX going on the laptop and the Spurs/Mavs game on ESPN.  A split or 2-0 on the night would be good for me. Go Spurs. Go Jacks.

Looks like the starting lineup tonight will be Casey, Kleinjan, Cadwell, Williams, and Loney going against Coleman, Josten, Brown, Stout, McKowen for UNI.

It's good to hear the name Casey Estling again. Great memories there.
