A little info. for you before the game tomorrow night...
In its 102 years of playing basketball, South Dakota is one of only 13 states that Utah State has never played a basketball game in. Utah State and South Dakota State will be meeting for the fourth time ever this week, with the Aggies owning a 3-0 all-time advantage, including a 72-51 win in Logan in its last meeting on Jan. 27, 2006. The first meeting between the two schools was on Dec. 9, 1960 in Logan with USU recording a 91-78 win. The other meeting was on Dec. 4, 1978 in Logan with the Aggies notching an 84-76 win.
PG's
#0 Watson, Mikel 6-2/180 Guard JR Oceanside, Calif./El Camino/Wyoming/Saddleback (Calif.) JC
#10 Clark, Kris 6-2/180 Guard JR Wilmington, N.C./New Hanover/Vincennes (Ind.) University
Watson gets most of the minutes, he is very quick/athletic and can create for others or himself. More of a slasher than an outside shooter. Clark will get 11-15 minutes in relief and is more of a true PG who looks to set others up and run the offense. Both players are seeing their first action on the court with the Aggies this year and are still learning the system.
SG's
#3 Hammer, Nick 6-6/205 Guard JR St. George, Utah/Snow Canyon/Dixie State (Utah) College
#20 Carroll, Jaycee 6-2/175 Guard JR Evanston, Wyo./Evanston
Carroll is the story at SG, the team goes as Jaycee goes. He is capable of dropping serious points as I'm sure many already know. He is currently 11th in the country in scoring with an average of 23.4 points per game. Hammer will get limited minutes and is usually a "chucker"...he will shoot at least 2 ill advised 3's a game.
Forwards
#21 Session, Chris 6-6/215 Forward SR Dallas, Texas/Lancaster/Grayson County (Texas) College
#23 Harrison, O.J. 6-4/185 Forward SO Danville, Ill./The Winchendon School Prep/Vincennes (Ind.)
#24 Peterson, Durrall 6-3/200 Guard/Forward SR Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook/Hutchinson (Kan.) CC
#30 Spicer, Chaz 6-7/215 Forward SR Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North/Kankakee (Ill.) CC
#31 Earl, Michael 6-8/210 Forward JR Pomona, Calif./Diamond Ranch/Fullerton (Calif.) CC
#40 DuCharme, Stephen 6-8/230 Forward JR Andover, Kan./Andover Central/Hutchinson (Kan.) CC
Session, Peterson, and DuCharme will most likely get the starts, but you never know with Stew...he may surprise as he is still playing with the starting lineup. DuCharme is new to the program this year as a JC transfer and has played pretty decent in jumping to the Div. 1 level. Earl will spell DuCharme and has a long body with super long arms. He is a good rebounder and shot blocker. Spicer is instant offense, but struggles to do any of the important things in the paint despite his size. Harrison will play the least out of this bunch and has not made much of an impact so far this season. Peterson will switch between guard/forward depending on the lineup and is a threat from outside.
Centers
#11 Vaitiekus, Arvydas 6-11/230 Center RS JR Telsiai, Lithuania/Telsiai/Marshalltown (Iowa) CC
Most likely won't see action. Vaitiekus was a RS last year after transferring and the coaches haven't shown any confidence in putting him on the court so far this year.
Bench-Non Playing
4 Tillotson, Blake 6-3/170 Guard FR Sandy, Utah/Alta
12 Taylor, Josh 6-3/165 Guard FR Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful
15 England, Aaron 6-5/180 Guard FR West Valley City, Utah/Cyprus
34 Bell, Brayden 6-9/240 Center SO Brighton, Utah/Brighton/Ohio State
Of the 15 players on the roster, 10 are new with 3 returning starters.
I look for this game to be close....Good Luck JackRabbits!!
