Granted, Cam didn't play much. But if he's left the team, the subject deserves a little exploration. I saw the video of his high school highlights and thought he'd be a stud in college - a 6-foot Canadian who could dunk and shoot the 3. (Defense wasn't a specialty, critics says.) What happens to his scholarship? Maybe it should be used for another big guy, especially since 6-6 Mario Brandon left the team for before the first game of the season and there will be a couple more guards coming in next season. The Jacks might be better off in the long run with these two extra scholarships to play with. I hope so. I hope that Hornby finds a good place to play, has a good college career and doesn't come back to haunt the Jacks.

Re: Cam Hornby
Cam is going back to Canada after break to take 12 Credits somewhere up there, he is also been looking at other schools. It's more of an issue of what Nagy is doing and where he is taking the team compared to what Cam is use to and thinks would work better. He's a bright guy on and off the court and I wish the best for him.

Re: Cam Hornby
Come on Jackmd, you know why Beran and Holdren left. Mario went home to his girlfreind...she was pregnant and he wanted to be with her. End of story...lets not make more of this than what has already been hashed over a thousand times. As far as Cam goes I guess we will all find out after semester graduation since doubledribble is content on letting all be known as of then.
I think he also could of just not of said a thing until he or whomever was ready to tell all. That type of statement just breeds speculation. :-/

This team will move forward regardless of who is left on the roster. Sunday's win proved that strides are being made.I updated my signature for the first time in six years.

Re: Cam Hornby
Unfortunately, programs lose players all the time due to various reasons. Players come here with the vision of playing. Sometimes with the school requirements, travel demands and competition for playing time, things don't always work out.
Some on this board want to think that SDSU is jinxed with all of the players that they have lost and that it must have something to do with the coach. I think this thinking is hog wash. Most of us on this board have no idea what is really going on on a daily basis within the program. Speculating what is going on and posting this speculation is misleading and can damage a person or programs hard work.
The reality is that people get recruited into a program and not every recruit turns out like you, the coach or the player had hoped. Being a D-1 program, a recruit that is not getting the playing time they think they deserve, can transfer out and play D-2 or lower the next year. When SDSU was a D-2 program, we would occasionally get a D-1 recruit to transfer into the program. From my observation though, these players usually did not pan out. (I'm sure people can disagree with this statement and list numerous players that did pan out, but that is not the intent of this post).
Some on this board have stated that AJ has always been able to retain his recruits and this has lead to the success of the women's team. I tend to disagree with this statement, because people leave that program also. I went back the '03-'04 recruits to see who was still left on the women's roster. During that year the following were freshmen, Corrie Dickmeyer, Chelsey Hegge, Ashley Snyder and Megan Vogel. Of those four women, only one is still on the roster.
So in conclusion, SDSU is now a D-1 program and recruits will leave if they are not getting playing time. I don't believe that the men's program has any glaring problems. I think that the program is still in transition from D-2 to D-1 and that the men's program is heading in the right direction. I see this team improving as the year goes along and hopefully they will finish the year at or above .500.
I wish Cam Hornby the best of luck and wish that things had worked out for him, but apparently they did not.

Re: Cam Hornby
Women's basketball reminds me a lot of the men's game of sixty years ago. Intricate play making and team work counted for a lot more than pure physical rammin-jammin' ability. I think women's players recruited locally have a lot easier time competing than the men's game would.

Perhaps I am out of line to even suggest having an open-mind about the possibility of a problem. I don't think in this format that I am.

Re: Cam Hornby
The list looks long of players lost last year but that includes the football players who played the second semester because of the scandel that went on. We also lost probally our best player in Steve Holdren because he was so impressive he decided to go to Big 11 power house Illinois

Re: Cam Hornby
Everyone in Jackrabbit Nation just needs to take a breath!
Speculation on Cam's scene is unnecessary! Let's just leave it alone!
Also, SDSU is not jinxed. On a bad streak of luck, I'll roll with that! Things will get better now that the team has more things to look forward to in conference championships, a balanced home/away schedule, and a chance at the "Big Dance." The quality of players that we recruit will continue to get better as well. If we lose a player now, we can replace them with a better player because we have a lot more to offer than a couple years ago!
Basketball is a sport that can be turned around quickly because it takes one or two studs to really raise the level of the team. Everyone is thinking about how good we might be with Beran, Holdren, and Landon (just for you jackmd)! It doesn't matter, we just have to go out and get some more quality kids and a couple years from now we can all look back at the struggles and look forward to the future!
These guys need our support and are giving everything they have out there! The least we can all do is get out there and cheer for them!

Re: Cam Hornby
IMO, I think we need to be a little careful when talking about how things will be better when the "quality of players we recruit" improves. I think every player on the team this season is a quality player, and each has shown that at different points throughout the season. I, for one, am tired of the backhanded compliments the team has gotten ever since the transition to DI.
The main problem for our struggles, again IMO, is that we have such a young team. We've basically relived the same season the last three years in a row because of retention problems. The reasons are well documented, and I've been one of the biggest critics. I've also had a change of heart, of sorts, where I've made a commitment to myself to remain positive this season. I do feel that the current roster has the most potential of any we have had the last 3 years.
When you have a young team, they are going to play inconsistently. Once we get to the point where 3-5 players are putting in a good night every time we take the court, we will start winning more games.
Maybe we should start appreciating the team we have a little more. Role players/practice players are some of the most unappreciated on the team. But every team depends on them for its success. Anyone who has ever been on a team knows that. Its also very hard to be a role player on a team experiencing difficulty. Kudos to the players sticking it out in that role.
I'm hopeful that by conference time next season we will be able to put a strong team on the floor. This will take 2 things:
1-Keeping every player we currently have on the roster around til next year (except Kleinjan, who is graduating ).
2-Continuing to get better every day.
So to the players still on the team, keep working hard, keep going to class, stay at SDSU, and things will get better. You will win more games. Fans support will get better. You will play in front of big, loud, home crowds. If you finish your college career as a Jackrabbit, I can almost guarantee you will be happy you did.
To Cam, I wish you could have stuck it out til better days, better days are coming. Good luck with whatever you do.
