  • UMKC - - Hoops for the Holidays

I was listening to one of the local sports talk radio stations (810 WHB) here in Kansas City this morning and heard them hyping their charity basketball game.  The game benefits Toys for Tots and Harvesters Community Food Network.  The game will be played just before our game with UMKC.

    http://www.hoopsfortheholidays.com/?

Hoops for the Holidays features current & former collegiate & professional athletes along with on air personalities from all of Sports Radio 810 WHB programming. The goal of Hoops for the Holidays is to raise food, toys & awareness for Harvesters & Toys for Tots. The game is being held at the historic Municipal Auditorium prior to the UMKC vs. South Dakota State. One ticket will get you entry to both games. Two tickets are available for only $8.10 at the Union Broadcasting office. Stay tuned to Sports Radio 810 WHB for your chance to win tickets as well as your chance to participate in contests on the court to win prizes from great 810 WHB sponsors.

    Date: Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Time: Doors open at 4:00pm, 5:00pm game time. (UMKC plays South Dakota State at 7:00pm)

    Location: Municipal Auditorium

This sounds like a fun event that will benefit two good causes and should help fill Municipal which will make it a festive atmosphere.  It is also cool that they are talking about UMKC vs. SDSU on the radio all the time.  8-)

            From the Kansas City Star:

            http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansas...s/16270541.htm

            South Dakota State at UMKC

WHEN/WHERE: 7:05 tonight at Municipal Auditorium

TV/RADIO: Metro Sports; WHB (810 AM)

ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE (2-10): The Jackrabbits are 1-1 against UMKC, beating the Kangaroos 72-65 last year in Brookings, S.D. … South Dakota State is riding a three-game losing streak, and the Jackrabbits started the year losing their first six games. … South Dakota State is shooting 62 percent from the free-throw line.

ABOUT UMKC (4-8): Brent Stephens’ streak of 16 straight free throws ended against Central Arkansas. … UMKC is shooting 81 percent from the free-throw line in the last five games. … UMKC is shooting 37 percent from three-point range. … Quinton Day is shooting 47 percent from three-point range. … UMKC has a chance to go into its conference opener with a five-game winning streak.

BOTTOM LINE: No 2-10 team can come into the Pouch of Ouch and beat the Kangaroos. UMKC should equal its longest winning streak of the season — two games — and this one has a good chance to grow. UMKC returns to the road and plays at Florida Atlantic, which lost 85-70 to the Kangaroos on Nov. 13 at Municipal. . . . (read more)

Re: UMKC - - Hoops for the Holidays

Unfortunately, my Jackrabbit house-guests decided that discretion was the better part of valor, and left for Brookings this morning to get there ahead of the winter storm.

So, we KC-area Jackrabbit locals (and any other SDSU fans) will have to hold up our part of the deal tonight in Municipal Auditorium. I just hope nobody wants to talk to me tomorrow, because I'm not planning to have a voice . . .

                GO RABBITS!!!

Storm track is still a little questionable, but most of the south half of South Dakota is under a winter storm watch for tomorrow and thursday.  As of now, the worst of it looks to be south of Brookings, but you never know how things will happen with South Dakota weather.  They are predicting freezing rain wednesday morning, switching to rain in the afternoon, then snow thursday night with accumulations up to 6" for the Sioux Falls area, which is about 50 miles south of Brookings.

Re: UMKC - - Hoops for the Holidays

I gotta go play city league ball so I'll look for updates when I return. This is a game we could win even shorthanded and on the road. We'll need to hit the 3's, make FT's and not turn the darn ball over. All that happens and we might have a chance.

Nagy says Loney will have surgery after the year. Wants to see Jose more consistent, good luck.

Go Jacks, beat the Roos. WNAX guys were pretty hard on both teams this morning. A little redemption perhaps?
