Nagy in Terry's blog
“We do feel like we need to get older and have more experienced and tougher players” in those vacant spots, Nagy said. “It’s hard to get those things out of a high school kid. You have to find a super, super kid.”
As expected, it appears that they will be searching for Juco's to add some experience/depth.

Bluehat, you seem to have all of this "inside" information, but you never have any names??  Can you back up this "understanding" with a name???
The young man that will be walking on second semester is Brandon DeBoer from Huron High and Jamestown College. He is the younger brother of Sarita who played for the women's team. I believe he can fill a role as a practice player while still growing and developing his basketball skills. Welcome to the Jacks Brandon and good luck.
It's definitely better to hear about young men wanting to join the Jacks rather than the reverse.  Thanks, Brandon . . . make Huron proud!
Check out Terry's blog...from what he has to say no one will be joining the team this season.  Once again, it would be best to know for certain before posting things like this.  For as good as it looks when a person is able to provide inside information on this board, it looks much worse when that information turns out to be false.

I was the one that mentioned Brandon's name. I was told by his uncle that he is walking on and that his sister Sarita had went in and spoke with Nagy.

Just my thoughts on recent news:

1) It's great to hear that Loney and Kleinjan are fast healers. That news greatly alleviates concerns over our depth chart as we enter the UBC portion of the schedule.
2) I wish Bilitz the best in whatever he decides to do. Hopefully he can turn things around and it would be great to hear his name surface in the future somewhere. It's extremely unfortunate that he'll leave SDSU w/o ever stepping foot onto the court.
3) Terry's blog said that Nagy "doesn’t plan on adding any active roster players this winter." If Brandon DeBoer were to walk-on here, I wouldn't expect him to play this season. Practice: yes; play: no.

Interesting talk about returning players has been heard by several people. I wonder if Coach Nagy will address this in official fashion or just continue to let the talk occur. I'm hopeful that the rumors are true but don't want to perpetuate them without the permission of the players or the team/coaches.

I have heard similar rumblings from a couple different sources...although I have heard there would be 2 former players returning to finish their senior seasons.  Like the good doctor, I don't want to fuel the rumor fire, but I wonder if the additions would be helpful to the current team?

(89 or Filbert, you can feel free to move this to the basketball personnel thread or squash it entirely if you choose  )

I have heard no rumors and don't understand why it's such a big deal. I assume someone heard Berte and or Beran may be returning?

I think that is the rumor that many have heard.

If indeed there is some validity to Beran and Berte coming back to the program for their senior year you have to like our potential starting lineup and immediate depth! Williams could go back to playing his more natural position of the 3.

I was in the HPER this morning and watched a little of the men's practice. Ben Beran was indeed in a practice uniform and going through shooting drills. I haven't heard anything for sure on whether he is coming back out for the team, but this is a positive sign. I could have sworn I saw Berte walk into the HPER too, but i'm not sure. I don't even know if he's around campus this year??? I did not, however, see Berte on the court with the rest of the guys.

My sources say the same thing. Beran and Berte are both practicing. Beran will be back next year for his senior season as will Berte pending NCAA approval.

Would this season be counted as their redshirt seasons then? Just wondering how it all works.

Very good news to have two kids back that will come in and be familiar with the system.

Beran played as a freshman and thus never redshirted so he would have another year to complete his elgibility. Berte played two years at a Iowa Junior College and thus has another year.

How about this for 2 deep next year.

PG-Callahan 6'2 Casey
SG-Cadwell 6'3 Moss or Sargent
SM-Williams 6'6 Yackley or Bassett
SF-Beran 6'7 Loney or Cordova
C-Berte 6'8 Engen

Not a bad looking lineup and finally we might have some depth. I'm still unclear over how many scholarships we have available for next year. Do Casey and Yackley count as a scholarship or not. Based on the above roster we might be out of scholarships. Still could use one more big body. Do we redshirt Moss and or Sargent? If this all comes to fruition I'm very excited about our first year in the Mid-Cont.

Casey and Yackley would not count against our scholarship total as they are not on athletic scholarships, so we would have 2 to give if it is true that Berte and Beran are coming back.
