  • Robert Regis?

Does anyone have any iformation on a Freshman by the name of Robert Regis. He says he is from New York and on the team. He got a few minors at the start of the year and got suspended for the season he says. He definetely has some amazing game just playing him one-on-one and a couple pick up games. He's not listed on any of the websites for basketball. Sounds fishy to me... do any of you have info on Robert Regis?

Hate to burst your bubble, but there's never been a Robert Regis on the team.

His name is Robensen Regis and he goes by Robby. He's here to try to play basketball and football. I'm not sure whether he has ever been on either team, but he seems like a pretty nice kid.
      Holy nutmeg!

I'm starting to think i'm getting lied too... o well... he is still a hell of a player

When and where have you seen this kid play?? If you've played against him, in what type of game situation did you play? Was it intramurals? Or just pick up ball? How big is Mr. Regis? I would think if he is a player our coaching staff would have heard of him by now. Give us more info on this Regis guy.

He's not big. I'm trying to remember, but he's less than 6', I'd guess. If he's a basketball player, he's a guard. And if he's a football player, he's a defensive back, probably a cornerback.

              Re: Robert Regis?

It has just been a couple of pickup games but he just ran circles around some pretty legit basketball players that played high school ball in state. He's about 5'11 and he's quick as lightning and seems to have a pretty good handle. Plays decent defense (it was just pickup ball) but he does need to work on his shot and thats one that he has been working on. Supposedly he is going and talking to Coach Stig about playing some football but idk what to believe about stuff that he says anymore.

This is beginning to sound like one of many students on campus that think they can play a particular sport. If they weren't recruited or aren't already on the team I'm sure they wouldn't be much help. You could put a lot of guys names on here and have the same discussion. I'm not doubting his talent or what has been said, I'm just saying guys like this are a dime a dozen...even on our campus.

BTown is on the mark here. I don't believe basketball of FB at SDSU currently welcomes walk-ons for a try out. I think you need to be invited to "walk-on". I could be wrong. Either way, time will tell if he will play for the Jackrabbits or just be a Jackrabbit.

                    Re: Robert Regis?

I do know that each year on the first day of school the football coaches will look at some students who have been in contact with them and try them out. They usually end up with 4 or 5 who are allowed to walk on. Amazingly enough they don't usually make it all the way through the season.

I won't guarantee it but I believe Justin Horn made the team that way.

i agree that there are a dime a dozen who are fringe players but what i truly don't understand about regis if he falls into this catagory is why would an african american from New York City come to South Dakota??? He has good enough game to play some where at the D2 level at least. Whats more complexing is he doesn't have a major! I am at a loss here.

                        Re: Robert Regis?

There are a lot of people at SDSU that come from other parts of the country. SDSU does have a good educational system and he wouldn't be the last to come from a major city. A lot of college students go a year or two without deciding a major, nothing outta the ordinary there. In fact Garrett Callahan is undecided in his major right now.

What is more "complexing" is that there is a thread devoted to this unknown.

"Yeah, but how good could the Jacks be, if only Robert Regis was on the team?"

                            I sense humor opportunities here . . .
