Good win. The Jacks had the game in control from the tip to the final buzzer. Nice balance scoring and rebounding and low turnovers. Hopefully this is the start of a strong finish.
Nice win by the rabbits! I was really impressed with our freshman tonight. They played well. One thing I would like to see out of the team as we wind down the season is a more up tempo brand of basketball. When we were in some of our best stretches tonight we were getting the ball up the court quickly and then into our offense. I'm not saying fast break every chance we get and rush up ridiculous shots but we got baled out by some stupid fouls as the shot clock was winding down (not to mention some pretty lucky shots). I know that depth is a problem for us but I would really really like to see more transition offense. It seems to get the players as well as the crowd more fired up! This is just a suggestion that I would like to see. All and all nice win with the exceptions of a couple dry spells! Lets finish the season strong!!!
Jackrabbits: Long ears, strong hind legs, gritty, relentless, fearless.
Broncs Suffer Second Straight Setback in UBL Action
UTPA dropped its record to 10-10 following the road loss to SDSU.
Jan. 27, 2007
The UTPA men's basketball team suffered its second straight defeat in United Basketball League action as the Broncs were handed an 82-67 setback to South Dakota State in Brookings, SD, on Saturday (Jan. 27).
The Jackrabbits snapped a five-game losing skid and improved their record to 5-15 on the season while the Broncs dropped to an even 10-10 during the 2006-07 campaign.
We will find out the true character of this team as the season winds down. It would be easy to throw in the towel, but it is important that the team continues to compete so we are ready to be competitive next season. Should be a winnable game, and I hate to say this a must win.

What exactly is a 'must win' for a team that came into this game with a record of 4 - 15???? Come on, these young pups are just trying to survive the rest of the season. Any win is a good win for their morale and for their confidence. If they come out and compete with any team the rest of the year, and pull off a few more wins, then more power to them. But we are dealing with a very young and inexperienced team here, let's just hope they stay together so we can finally have something to build on.
BROOKINGS - A victory is usually just about one night, but Saturday was one of those rare times when the South Dakota State University men's basketball team could enjoy the present and smile about the future.
The Jackrabbits won impressively, trailing for only 21 seconds in the 82-67 decision over Texas-Pan American.
SDSU worked hard, dominating the glass for the second consecutive game with a plus-14 rebounding edge. The Jacks shot well, a season-high 54.2 percent from the field. They committed only seven turnovers, and their true freshmen cornerstones, forward Kai Williams and guard Garrett Callahan, combined for 39 points.
In spite of the team's record, the crowd at Frost Arena was relatively large - 2,530, the most for a game not against North Dakota State in SDSU's Division I history - and because of the success, it was loud.
"When we were winning 25 a year, I didn't think every win was a good win," said Jacks coach Scott Nagy, whose club won for just the fifth time this season and ended a five-game losing streak, "but I don't think that way anymore. Any win we can get is a good win for us." . . . (read more)

What I meant by a "must win" is that our team with its youth and fragile confidence had a team last night that was very beatable and needs some wins over teams like this to get some confidence going into the off-season and next year. It would be real easy for this team to give in and throw in the towel on the season, but the guys game through.

I couldn't agree with you more...but more so because we aren't athletic enough to play 5 on 5 every time down the court.
That was a fun game last night. Karen, Kai's mom and sir filbert joined us cheering in the student section. When was the last time we only had 7 turnovers in a game? This game gave us a good glimpse at the future. And the future is looking good. 4 of the starters showed up and had good games. Crowd made a little more noise than Thursday night. Another plus at least 10 in the rebounding column. We're coming into a zone I think and everyone is starting to get use to how everyone plays and reacts. Let's see what tomorrow night brings.
