11 seconds left. Jacks have the ball and Nagy call a timeout.

        MTSU 57, SDSU 56.

As Steve I notes, how many times has Cadwell taken that last-second shot! But, he's only 2/10 from the field tonight.

        Here we go....

          Cadwell plays in to Callahan...

Williams shoots but it rolls out, he gets the ball and shoots again: blocked.

          The final:

          MTSU 57, SDSU 56

Dang. So close. Jacks had a chance to win and got the last couple of shots. Dang.

Coach was disappointed. Obviously he thought the Jacks could have and should have won with better defense.

                          Re: Middle Tennessee State

I was at the game and heard the coach on the way home. He was disappointed, and if we could have gotten a few more shots to fall, we would have won the game. They had two 6'10 and one 6'9 guy who were pretty decent players. Our guys were really mismatched inside and we did very good considering the height differential. Frias seem to have a good night. Loney and Williams were both kind of drained from Saturday night. I fear with the youth, we going to have a battle with consistency. Dispite what coach felt, I think the team is making progress and the confidence is building. Without bigger inside people, its tough to match up. I think our guys gave a 100 percent effort and maybe we should have won by 10. Coach also felt our defense was not aggressive enough and it was a problem tonight.

Engen was dressed for the game and seems to be able to run on his bad foot. He did not play tonight and it would have been good to see what he could do against the big guy that MTSU had.

Good game from a fan's perspective, even though we didn't play our best. Even though Cadwell is hurt now, I sure wish he could get his shot on track like last year. Seems even before the current injury he just hasn't shot the ball with the same consistency this season. Might be due to the fact that he is being defended closer this year too?

Saw Mr. Dale Moss in the crowd for the second game in a row, also a group of Madison High schoolers that included Mr. White and Mr. Fiegen. Good to see all of them taking a vested interest in the jacks on a night when travel wasn't the best.

The Jackrabbits are learning how to be aggressive on offense. They have shown definite signs of life in the past two games. Williams is starting to play a more natural game for him--a slashing, driving 3-forward position. Unfortunately, that puts players like Jose Frias at the strong forward spot a lot of the time, giving opponents a mismatch. Frias has found his game as well, and is playing under control, driving past his bigger defenders and making layups and getting to the free throw line. Cadwell is obviously struggling with his hip pointer, but he continues to battle--the 'trying to do too much' mantle may currently lay on his shoulders. It's too bad the Jacks aren't deep enough to give him a game or two off to heal up the hip. Callahan has gone a bit quiet offensively, but you'll notice that turnovers are WAY down over earlier in the year. Bassett continues to show flashes, and in my opinion, Casey's play has also improved. Loney is as steady as you could ask him to be as a short and undersized center.

One of Nagy's comments was that our defensive play was too timid, and that's probably right. Middle Tennessee had their way with the Jacks on the inside during that crucial run in the second half.

Still, two steps forward and one step back equals one step forward for the Jackrabbits. After having watched the three games this weekend, I think they may have turned an important corner with the UTPA game. It wasn't quite enough to get them past Middle Tennessee, but I now actually have some reasons to hope that they're capable of playing a competitive game against NDSU next weekend.
