  • Re: Onward and upward

I don't know the details on this, but I think a prior poster or two have pointed out that SDSU does not have a 24-hour access area where players can go to practice or shoot any time, any day. I'd call that a facility issue. Although this does not affect players directly, several of the top rows of upper-level bleachers on the ends are still roped off and cannot be used, either because of sight lines or the crumbling southwest exterior staircase. (Maybe the steps have been fixed.) Hopefully, those seats will be needed some day. I agree that Frost is a great venue, but there are some correctable issues related to facility maintenance and dedicated space.
    This space for lease.

Its a sight line issue. The upper level bleachers need to be elevated. This isn't a priority but will be corrected.

I believe this is due to the fact that they do not pull the bleachers all the way out any longer due to the need for more walk space for fire code. When the Frost first opened, the bleachers were pulled out completely and there was only a feet between the people in the first row and the railing.

facilities for basketball are pretty good.... Frost needs some work on the upper level but other then that is one of the nicer mid major arenas around.... I think where they lack is with recruiting, and part of that is money and part of that is on the court.... If you become somewhat nationally noticed it doesn't take as much because the players know who you are and know what our program is about...... I think SDSU does need to look into recruiting nationally, get a contact in Australia and in Europe and I think it would help us a lot.... I know its help Wyoming's programs and some other programs.... When it comes to JuCo's I don't really like recruiting them unless its for a need like next year we will need a post so we went and got a JuCo post....... I think the mens program is getting close to getting over the hump but another assistant would help a lot so one guy could focus 100% to recruiting and the other 100% at scouting and the other one can focus 100% at helping Nagy......

I know of a contact with Australia...I AM YOUR CONTACT. Having spent a year working at the Australian Institute of Sport, where they produce some of the top young talent in Australia (ie. Andrew Bogut, Andrew Ogilvy, Patty Mills, and somebody by the name of Nate Jawaii). While I was over there I assisted with all of the exercise testing on them. It is a phenomenal program which teaches fundamentals, fundamentals, and fundamentals. The positive for recruiting a lot of International kids is that they don't sometimes the difference between a Mid-Major program and a Major program. But Aussies tend to go to universities on the West Coast. Also when I was over there I met an assistant coach from Sydney who was considering applying for one of the grad assistant positions at SDSU. When he found out I had graduated from SDSU he asked my thoughts on the position. I had told him I was kind of biased, but also told him some negatives (transition period, no conference affliation at the time, etc). I also told him he might be a positive for the program in that he could open a pipeline to some Australian kids.

Agree that it would be great for our program, but another assistant would be "pipeline" for recruiting as well.

And they all help Nagy, all scout, and all recruit. Sometimes more than others in different situations.....

Not necessarily in my opinion. I think we have some weaknesses and if a scholarship opened because of a transfer and we would have the flexibility to go out and get a more talented player that can help us win it would be fine with me.
