  • Southern Utah at Cedar City

Preview excerpt from the St. George Spectrum:
In South Dakota State (8-16, 3-10), the Thunderbirds face a solid, physical team that plays well together.
"They're very similar to four or five other teams in our league," Reid said. "They'll get after you defensively."
The Jackrabbits "got after" SUU in a 66-62 win in Brookings, S.D., on Jan. 19 by grabbing and holding Payne, the T-Birds leading scorer, in the key and low post.
"We have to find a way to break away from them inside," Reid said, "and we have to block out on the boards. They're an outstanding rebounding team."
The Jackrabbits are ranked fourth in the league in team rebounds (34.2 rebounds per game) and second in rebound margin (+3.2).
South Dakota State's best player is 6-foot-6 forward Kai Williams, who averages 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He shoots 50 percent from the field, including 36 percent from 3-point range.
The player who hurt the 'Birds most in the Jan. 19 loss is guard Clint Sargent, who averages 8.0 points per game but scored 20 that night.

Re: Southern Utah at Cedar City

    From SUU's campus paper:
Geoff Payne, a junior forward, said he wants to win because of the close outcome of the last match-up between the two teams, and the T-Birds have good coaches with a good game plan.

"I can't speak for the other guys, but for me, I want to win more," he said.

Junior forward Cris Hoopes said the T-Birds should have won against the Jackrabbits in the first meeting of the season, but they played poorly.

"We played at their tempo, and we need to control the tempo," he said. "We can beat them."
    "I think we'll be OK"

Sounds like good bulletin board material for the Jacks who may need some help getting up for a game after a long road trip and with the season coming close to an end. Anybody would see those last quotes as someone essentially saying SDSU is not as good and should not have won the first game. A little motivation can go a long ways. 2 more wins should be a realistic goal. 10 wins looks a lot better than 8 or 9 for whatever reason.

"I want to win more" would be bulletin board material.
I don't have any problem with "we can beat them". They were on the road and only lost by 4 points. I would be saying the same thing if I was them.
They do compliment us on being aggressive and hitting the boards. Since both teams won their last game, both teams can say that they are getting on a roll. I expect a close hard fought game.

Summit TV back on, no play by play but they do show the scoreboard occasionally. WNAX is about a minute ahead.

What the crap is that when we shoot free throws??

I swear it sounds like all SUU fans are 11 year old girls at an NSYNC concert.

Looks like the game was a pretty hot ticket! Not hardly an empty seat in the place.
