    Well, let's see:

    Beran:
    6 minutes, 1-5 from the field, 0-1 3 pointers, 0-0 free throws, 3 rebounds, 3 fouls, 2 turnovers, 2 points total.

    Callahan:
    16 minutes, 1-7 from the field, 1-5 3 pointers, 2-2 free throws, 2 rebounds, 2 fouls, 3 turnovers, 2 points total.

    Cordova:
27 minutes, 5-9 from the field, 1-2 3-pointers, 3-4 free throws, 4 rebounds, zero fouls, 3 turnovers, 14 points total.

Looks to me like Cordova earned on the court (27 minutes, 14 points, NO fouls) the right to bark a little bit at his teammates.

Yeah, that is a lot for a Freshman to be voicing. I like the fire, I am not sure about how it is going to play in the locker room.
Now, it is up to the players and coaches to make sure things get worked out and move forward.

I'd put a lot of money on the fact Beran and Callahan knew they were in the wrong and in turn played like they didn't show up at all. The words by Cordova aren't going to surprise them at all. If they are the players and people we think they are, they said the same kind of things to themselves shortly after the game was over.

I like hearing something like that from someone on this team. Maybe the Argus wasn't the proper forum but someone asked him a question and he gave an honest answer. If I was Beran or Callahan I'd use it constructively. In fact, I'd be encouraged that a young player has the fire and desire to step up and say lets play hard all the time. If you don't think thats been a problem with this team than you haven't been paying attention.

When I first heard what Cordova said, I thought he may have overstepped what a freshman should say. But the more I think about it, he was correct and Beran and Callahan should take note. It has been a problem that we do not play hard all the time. With the night Cordova had and the way the other two failed to show up, maybe there is a new leader on the horizon. Maybe the Argus wasn't the proper forum to vent this, but it needed to get out. If it was just in the locker room, it could have been passed over. Now everyone knows about it and maybe we will see some results. I have been trying to pull something positive from last nights game and this might be it.

I agree that Cordova was right. We always complain that no one on the team has that fire and vocal leadership. I'm not sure if this is Cordova or not but at least we finally got some emotion from the team...

Cordova's very young, but I like his attitude. He probably shouldn't have said that to Terry V., but he did. And maybe it will light a fire under some of the players who didn't play their best last night.

I was kind of hoping that you might know that one Mrs. W.

Beren and Callahan seem like pretty dedicated guys who understand the emotion of sports. I would hope the the only impact that Cordova's truthful observation would have would be to help get this team playing well again. The Jacks certainly need Beren and Callahan to play well, and the statistics indicate they didn't have good games on Saturday night. As a fan, I was actually relieved to find out that two starters weren't being benched for something more serious than being late for a shoot-around. I don't recall who was affected by the flu, I think I heard during the radio broadcast of the Centenary game that the flu was a factor then, too.

I spoke to Kai last night about 6.00pm they were still in Denver airport, their flight had been delayed, and he told me about 4 of the guys had a sickness (flu). He was pretty frustrated and in his opinion (don't get bent outta shape folks) they were in for a tough game against the gophers he said you have to be realistic we do not have the posts to match up with their posts. BUT we will go out and do the best we can do.

If you look at the box score Cordova was the only one in double digits...have to have 4 or 5 in double digits to win, one or two players do not make a team..

Thanks for sharing Kai's take. It cant be fun with the flu and air port delays. I suspect they will hardly get their bags unpacked and they are back on a bus to Minneopolis again. Just from listening to the games, and not being their, matching up in all positions including the post has not always been complete. We do need more talent at the post. Our current guys are doing the best they can, but we did not see this many lanky and athletic post players in the NCC. If they were lanky, there were not athletic.

Mark Engen seems to be a gentleman on and off the court, but I fear Terry V. is right in that we can not expect him to carry us. He has the potential to give us some good minutes and he did that ORU and I hope and pray that will continue.

The realitities of D1 are here, no doubt about it.

Does anyone think that Beren and Callahan might have the flu? I would think Cordova would know this so he wouldn't have said what he did. I'm just going to let this go until I hear something one way or the other.
