  • 2007-08 Sagarin (and other) Ratings

As of Sunday, Nov. 25, Sagarin has the Jacks at #277. Pretty bad, until you consider where we dwelled last year.

More hopefully, Ken Pomeroy has us at #68:

The truth is probably somewhere in between . . .

Our RPI as calculated by Pomeroy is 167.

(Caveat and disclaimer--yes, I know almost all of the computer ratings are at best meaningless until the end of December . . . )

Here's a great website for up to date RPI for both men and women.

I guess I like any rating program that has us second best in the Summit (to Oakland), and where our rating (177) is way ahead of NDSU with 231...but I'm rather doubtful that is a very realistic happening. However, our win over UNI surely helped our stature. But pretty early for any ratings to be real accurate.

Here's a site with lots and lots and lots of ratings sites. Not all of the links work, but plenty of them do.

                http://www.nutshellsports.com/wilson/bbncaa.html

I know that some rating systems carry some weight forward to this year of last year's performance, and others that don't. They gradually phase out the effect of last year's performance and by the time January comes around, you're usually looking at only this year's performance.

That, I think, explains why some sites have SDSU in the low 200's and others have us in upper 100's. (I like the latter!)

Can you take seriously any rating that has Wright State #1?

Surprise! It's the November 30th RPI, as interpreted by Ken Pomeroy:
                  1 Wright St. Horz 2-0
                  2 UCLA P10 6-0
                  3 Miami FL ACC 5-0
4 Sam Houston St. Slnd 3-0
                  5 Texas A&M B12 6-0
                  6 Texas Arlington Slnd 4-0
                  7 Texas B12 5-0
                  8 George Mason CAA 6-1
                  9 Texas Tech B12 4-2
                  10 Seton Hall BE 6-0
                  11 Baylor B12 5-0

                  13 Oregon P10 6-1
                  14 Vanderbilt SEC 6-0
                  15 Drake MVC 1-1

I have absolutely no idea what these ratings are, but I give them no respect whatsoever when Wright St. and Sam Houston St. are in the top 5

Scroll to the bottom and you'll see SDSU is #15 in Kyle Whelliston's Mid Major Rankings.

They're ranking mid-major programs. Is that so hard to understand?
