Next up for the Rejuvenated Rabbits are the Idaho Vandals.
Idaho was truly awful last year, finishing 4-27. Two of those wins were against SDSU, so if Idaho was bad last year, what were we? (rhetorical question, no answer required)
So far this year, they've played Gonzaga (#14), and gotten pummeled, and Washington State (#9), and gotten pummeled.
They play UC Riverside, who are not (#anything), before getting the Rabbits at home in Moscow. The UCR game might give a better indication of any progress the Vandals have made since their woeful season last year. (Did I mention that two of those wins were vs. SDSU?)
Only four players return to the Vandals from last year's team, and they've brought in seven new players. Still, SDSU is the Vandals' home opener.
According to Washington State's coach, Idaho is very "scrappy and physical." Sounds like how we want the Jacks to play.
Here's a bit of the season preview from the Idaho athletic web site:
Based on the results last year, the Vandals might be forgiven for considering SDSU a "junior varsity" team on their "Varsity Level" schedule. It's up to the boys in yellow and blue to show them otherwise.
Bring on the Vandals!

“As we approach this coming season, we know we have upgraded our talent,” (Idaho coach George) Pfeifer said. “Most evident is the size of our front line. We have five players who are 6-foot-8 or taller and that is something we didn’t have heading into last season.”
The Vandals played what Pfeifer called a “varsity level” schedule last season with 11 games against team which reached the post season. The schedule Idaho faces during the 2007-08 season will be no slouch, but it should provide the Vandals with an opportunity to be successful and to develop a winning attitude.
. . .
The resurgence of Idaho basketball has already begun to take shape during the off season as the 2007-08 recruiting class earned a No. 37 ranking by the HOOPSCOOP.
