    All I can say is . . .

    GOOD!
This was simply a great win for the men over a quality team. Should give them some confidence in the coming weeks. It was also a great win for the Jacks fans. Fans will show when the team wins. Its just that simple. This team showed that they can win. Two observations as to why we won. Took care of the ball (9) turnovers against a pressure defense. Also, the play of our big men, Loney, Beran, Basset, great job gentlem. Will be interesting what Berte' can bring to the team. Write this down - Nagy used a timeout to slow the other teams momentum! Does not happen very often.

Go big, Go blue, Go Jacks

I was at the game last night and I've been to many of our home and away games the last 4 years. This is without a doubt the biggest win in SDSU's D-I history.

Being a part of the crowd last night felt really special as the people that were there really got into the game. They appreciated the effort our guys were giving on the floor and you could tell they were ready to get on their feet for this team. They haven't been able to do that much in the recent past.

I have to reiterate previous comments on Loney's play. He was huge for us last night and without him we probably don't win. He was the only guy that could physically guard their "behemoth" and that is why he played more than any of our other posts. His three-pointer (along with Engen's 3) gave you the feel that something special was going to happen.

Feeling good about the game, I stuck around afterwards and listed to the press conference. I'll do my best to summarize Nagy's comments:

      - This was the best defensive game he's seen out of his team during his years of coaching here.

      - Getting two fouls on Coleman early was really big.

      - Loney was huge

      - He talked at length about how this is just part of the improvement process. He said he felt the team turned the corner this summer and kept it going through the off-season. He said this win is just a part of that and hopes that it will continue when they travel to Idaho.

      - This win isn't going to make them go undefeated the rest of the year.

      - He said he absolutely hates it when they get outrebounded but they did do a much better job in the 2nd half on the glass.

      - Felt his players really learned alot from watching film the past few days and realizing they have played really well at times (specifically noting the first half at UWM). This gives them confidence that they've played with everyone this year and we've played some really good teams.

      - It was emotionally hard to talk to his team in the locker room after the game. Noting these guys have been through so much and he's so happy that these guys got to feel what it is like to win a big game. They've been telling them the last two games that "it's time, it's your time" and while being really close and then collapsing against UWM, they got it done against UNI.

      - A lot of positive things to say but didn't want to make this win more than what it was. Talk about the future and how they have to keep getting better.

To end...ponder this everyone. We played well against a really good Montana squad. We lost to them by 9 and had 20+ turnovers. Montana went on the road last night to #9 Washington State...they played them close and lost by 11.

        Nagy from Argus:

"But I'll tell you, after the game, it was real hard for me to talk to my kids. Real hard," he said, his eyes misting even in the retelling. "Because I've wanted them to feel this so badly."

"That was part of Nagy's message during that final timeout: Let's prepare for more and get used to this."

        That's awesome!

I caught some of the post game interview with the UNI coach. He was talking about how tough it was to win in Frost. He said the crowd was very effective in that they new when to stand and cheer when the Jacks made "hustle plays", said that really helps a team.

The crowd might have been small, but they were mighty!!!!!

I don't think we will see that small of a crowd the rest of the season. It wouldn't surprise me to see 3 times that next Saturday. This win was huge in many ways.

It was lonely and hard to cheer with the Bronchitis. Me lady friend who loves SDSU athletics as much as me wanted to be there but had her Family Thanksgiving last night. She was bummed she wasn't there.
Come Christmas Break the might be silent for four games if I get to go to Phoenix for New Year's for work.

This big win for the program was a long time in the making, and the breaks fell our way. It was great to see guys like Brian Norberg, Bill Fischer, Andy Kleinjan, and Ryan Johnson in the crowd to see this huge victory. It was also good to see coach Wilber in the house and talk to him after the game. This win sets the momentum for the rest of the year. Alright enough with the name dropping.

To beat Minnesota in a few weeks would be huge. But to be able to say we are a .500 team this far into the season seems strange but I like.

The best team won last night IMHO. Our guys had more hustle, more aggression, more desire and maybe even more talent than UNI last night. UNI's team did not impress me at all in anyway. Not sure what else to say. The smile is still on my face from last night.

it was also fun to see Joe Green in his UNI hooded sweatshirt sitting in the panther section. Great to see some of the guys in that recruiting class pick up the biggest win in D-1 transition.

It could be argued that two or three other wins in the last few years (Central Florida on the road? NDSU at home?) were bigger wins for the men's program. (There haven't been many really meaningful victories.) But beating UNI certainly was very big. Belated Congrats, Jacks. Very impressive. Very encouraging.

Neither Central Florida or NDSU were or have been NCAA Tournament Teams and neither play in as highly of a rated or regarded conference as the Missouri Valley (6th ranked conference last season). UNI is the most significant win to date based on the teams reputation, success and conference strength.

I agree with conference strenght and reputation, but UCF was in the NCAA tournament the year before the Jacks beat them. Central Florida nearly pulled an upset over #2 Seed, UCONN, losing 77-71. That same year UCF beat the Jacks by 10.

With that being said, that was the most impressive showing for the Jacks during the transition.

Looks like UNI turned around and will beat Iowa State tonight. They are up 10 with about a minute to go. Makes our win that much more impressive.

Need to keep up the momentum against Idaho.

Amen to that. I think we can roll Idaho. I can even begin to explain my frustation while sitting at Frost last year watching the Idaho game. Things have turned towards the better, need to confirm the progress tomorrow night.

Northern Iowa 61, Iowa State 48.

UNI coach Ben Jacobson seems to have Greg McDermott's number, he's 2-0 against his former head coach.

This does nothing to hurt SDSU's computer rankings, going forward . . .

Just sent e-mail to my nephew at Iowa State that went something like this: Let's see...UNI beat ISU rather easily tonight. SDSU handled UNI Friday night, holding it's top scorer scoreless...so that means....

I hope Frost is rocking this Saturday night. I'll be making as much noise as I can.
