South Dakota State is going to add two full-time assistant coaches, one for the men's basketball team and one for the women's, to get up to code with its new league.
Yet the school will still be in the bottom half of staffing in that sport in the Mid-Continent Conference.
According to Mid-Con commissioner Tom Douple, conference bylaws mandate member schools have three full-time coaches each for men's and women's basketball programs, one less than the maximum allowed on-court during games by the NCAA.
The Jackrabbits were at just two - one head coach and one full-time assistant for each program- through their first three seasons at the Division I level.
"They're our priority sports and we feel staffing is critical in this sport if we want to improve and move forward," said Douple. . . . (read more)
