  • UND Scrimmage

SDSU had a closed scrimmage today with UND. Pretty much a simulated game (only thing missing were fans). While no official score was kept on the scoreboards....they results were a resounding success for SDSU.
They handled UND with ease and won by a heck of a lot more than the other night against DWU. There will still be those that doubt the ability of the team this year based on the first exhibition but this team is much better than the past three years and will have success this season. Hang in there.....You'll see results soon.

Huh....thats what the UND bus was doing in town....wait, but that was yesterday....

I didn't know there were such things as closed scrimmages....but yes, I'm looking forward to seeing some mens basketball.

It's amazing how I can't get enough of Jackrabbit basketball, yet can't stand the NBA. Is it the same for anyone else?

BHM alluded to this in a different thread. I'm guessing that Nagy used his set plays today since this was a closed scrimmage and the opponents aren't going to be able to get tape (they'll just have to settle for the DWU game).

I haven't been able to stand the NBA for about 10 years.

Yes, since I was a senior in high school and decided to go to SDSU, I've hated to miss a football or basketball game. Since graduating in '75, I haven't lived near Brookings, so I've spent a lot of game days with WNAX. If the Jacks win it's a good day, if they lose I hate to wake up the next morning. Reading this forum has shown me that there are others with the same affliction.

Never cared about pro basketball. Other than the Vikings, I never cared about pro football either. Now that I've ceased to care about them Sundays are less complicated.

The NBA has been in decline since Detroit won the title in 89/90. I loved watching Magic, Bird, and Dr. J. Back on topic glad to hear the good news about the scrimmage.

That is all we ever used to do. The only reason they made them into and exhibition game is for ticket revenue and to give the players simulated game experience. I was a student manager for the Jacks MBB while a student from 2000-2004. During the 2001-02 season (the year we lost to Metro) the men got beat by Northwestern College in a closed scrimmage. They turned out pretty good that season. These should be closed. The players and coaches don't need fans breathing down their necks because they had a bad practice or scrimmage.

I recall a few years back, SDSU scrimmaged Southwest Minn in then preseason and might have occurred on Tim Miles watch at SW, so this was not the first scrimmage by any means. Because they are closed to fans, it probably means that media can not be present either and unless the coach mentions it, we never find out about it. Apparently some of us saw the UND bus. I did not.

I happy to hear CadSev's report. Maybe should take the DWU game score with a grain of salt, I know I am. The current roster has the potential and I agree we will soon see the results.

Yes I don't care much for the NBA either. The refs let them play way too much to my liking, a walking violation is never called it seems to me. Also I would have loved to seen the UND scrimmage too. I expect to see UND on our schedules in the coming seasons.

Thanks for the info. I am anxious to see this team compete on a night in and night out basis. Hasn't really been the case since the transition. Schedule is favorable this year and the roster is the most solid it has been. I'll reserve the right to be critical but I also appreciate that I'm simply a fan. The coaches will do what is best for the team/program not what I expect. Thanks again for the info.

Indeed, this is great news. I was reserving any judgement until a later date even though I was suprised by the initial exhibition outcome against DWU. This report gets me looking forward to the season even more. There are wins in this schedule. And there's not a life sucking streak of virtually un-winable games to get these guys down right away.

This group should be able to build and build through the season. Now lets get to Brookings and fill up Frost Arena. We might just have a men's basketball program again.

exhibition game and und scrimmage - wearing the same yellow n blue but totally 2 different teams

mental aspect of team appears much improved
