    Re: 2007-08 Schedule

I personally don't want to see SDSU make any contracts and then buy them out.  I think that we need to show more integrity than that.  I do believe that we will be playing USD in the future.  I have no reason to believe that I know when that time in the future will be.

If the schedule is starting to fill up already perhaps we should offer to  schedule USD for an exhibition instead of Southwest.  If we have to pay someone a guarantee to come here it might as well be DSU since they are part of our own University system in South Dakota.  Such a game would be a benefit to USD.  I'm sure that they will want to play some DI schools to see where they stand.

      Re: 2007-08 Schedule

I think that SDSU should play as many guarente games as possible if you look at colleges that have made names out of them selfs you think of Gonzaga and teams in the Missouri Valley Conference and there mantallity was go anywhere to get a game. I however think that SDSU should play as many in state D-II and NAIA schools as possible this would be the last year that they could do so and also get home games in which some people would attend. Look at this if SDSU played BHSU. BHSU has some east river players and there family and friends and classmates would all make the trip up there. Also if you look people who have interest at other state universities other then usd would come up to frost and see how great of a program it is and then support the team. And same goes for NSU and USF I wouldn't mind to see USD come up there but it wouldn't be in any contract it would be you get a D-1 game at frost and then maybe in 3-4 years we might start talkinga bout a 2-1 in basketball and 9-10 years before the football team steps foot into that arena looking thing I think they call it a dome even though the SFA and the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center hold more people. I don't think that SDSU girls would ever play USD in girls basketball, they would play ACC teams before that happend. Just wouldn't make sence with the success they have had.

What did we get for going and playing Illinois?? was it 10 grand? that number seems to be sticking in my mind. Thing about guarentees is I think kids like to go in and play those colleges but also in the same sence understand if they loose its not the end of the world I think they would rather go and loose at Champaine, Chapel Hill, Durham or other big college towns then to loose by 40 to Wisconsin Green Bay. And face it when playing storied programs kids go out and give there best.

        Re: 2007-08 Schedule

Sounds like about a 15 game home schedule next year. The cost for Montana buying out would be about 100,000, so I think Montana is going to be making the return trip to Brookings next year.

Seems odd that a Montana buyout would be higher for basketball than football ($50K). I have a hunch that may be the only time we'll ever see a Montana team in Brookings.......

            Re: 2007-08 Schedule

Id play a full D1 schedule and leave the lower division schools out of it if I were you guys.

You seem to have 19 games already(full MCC schedule and UNI).

Schedule a Big West, Big Sky, and WCC team to a home/home if you can, take 4 gurantee games, and then try to get. Sign Utah Valley State and Chicago State to home/homes.

This could give you guys $$, exposure, and as little travel as possible.

            Something like this:

            Home:
            Northern Iowa
            Long Beach State
            Montana
            Loyola Marymount
            Chicago State

            @ Washington State
            @ Minnesota
            @ Nebraska
            @ Depaul
            @ Utah Valley State
            (this is just for example)

Instant $$ in your pocket. Relatively easy travel schedule. Progressively harder, leading into conference play.

              Re: 2007-08 Schedule

At least for their transition, there should be ZERO games with that University to the South. Then after that, games that only benefit SDSU.

                  Re: 2007-08 Schedule

Came across this on the Univ of San Francisco basketball fan site.  Looks like we are playing San Jose State.  It'll be nice to get the Jacks in Northern California.

San Jose States rough outline for a 2007 schedule.

                  NON CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

November 15 -17: away games-Middle Tennessee tournament (we believe this will be a three-game tourney for SJSU)

December 1: away game, Cal State Bakersfield

December 3: home game, Jackson State (tentative)

December 5: away game, University San Diego

December 8: home game, Santa Clara

December 15: home game, Northern Arizona

December 19: away game, Michigan State

                  December 22: home game, Presbyterian

December 28: away game, Portland State

December 30: home game, South Dakota State

                    Re: 2007-08 Schedule

I'd expect Montana to hold true to the contract for a few reasons.....1.) the buyout.....large amount for school that size to back out. 2.) Matt Martin and giving him a home game in his home state his senior year. Typically DI's like to get games close to the home state or within the home state of their athletes. It's great that Matt has this opportunity. Too bad UW Milwaukee doesn't return here this year. Would be nice to see Paige play a final game in SD.

                      Re: 2007-08 Schedule

If schools like to have games in the home states of their seniors, do you think Wisconsin will come to SDSU when Joe Krabbenkroft (sorry for the spelling) is a senior? That would be a huge game, but I'm not sure about a Big 10 team would come to Brookings, it would be nice though.

                        One word ........ NO

You forget they lost at home to NDSU.....as much as they love Joe they don't love him that much to risk an non-conference loss on the road. They won't get any closer than the U of Minn away game the next two years.

The only possiblity for that is to play in the Arena with Big 10 officials. Bo would MAYBE consider that.

I have heard this as well and I thought it was a very good thing. I was told all of these double headers are on Saturdays. I'm thinking this is going to go over very well and draw in some fans we normally wouldn't.

We are also looking forward to the double headers....in our University system here thats how the games are played...the Womens games are at 6.00pm and the Men's are at 8.00pm. It makes for a good atmosphere.
