So i'm not sure if this is new news, but I was informed by someone I would consider a reliable source, the earliest Dykstra would commit is October.

Only 4 MN basketball recruits have signed right now. Official visits can start after high school starts. The early signing period is Nov. 11-18 and programs that really want players will wait until at least then. Fact is, SDSU wasn't in love with Gruis enough to wait. They are in love with Dykstra.
We do agree that USD will be a good fit for Trevor and that he will get a good education there.
I understood your position just wanted to add my perspective on the issue. We are definitely looking at it from two different sides. As for the extra incentive, not sure that will be needed. When we play the boys from Vermillion again it will be plenty intense regardless.

I'd just like to remind Billy H. that we consistently won 20 plus games per year and made many more regionals than any of the other DII schools in the region during our DII era.

I'm not sure how high school athletes get the notion that scholarship offers are forever, or that they're the only kid in the world that a coaching staff is looking at to fill a slot on the college team.

They're definitely limited-time offers and can expire whenever the coaches offering the scholarship decide to go in another direction, or whenever another kid decides to say "yes." (Of course, some coaching staffs are better than others at explaining this uncomfortable little detail, but that's life, too. You have to hope that ours are among the more forthright coaches--I think that' s the culture most of us want at SDSU as alumni and fans, anyway.)

I guess it's all part of the immaturity of teenagers, combined with the people around them giving questionable, or even outright unreasonable advice.

My guess is that USD was the best offer on the table and Gruis took it. That is smart on his part. He will do well there and he is a good fit for that system. Trevor got a DI scholarship, but the focus has been on why SDSU stopped recruiting him. Coach Nagy went a different direction, that happens alot on the recruitment of athletes.

It's just from what I've heard he's a much better player to have a school like SDSU (with an available schollie) pull an offer and to have him "settle" (my opinion) for USD. I guess I had some of the same questions (mainly why did he choose me-too-u) about Louie Krogman too.
    My opinion...
    1. A chance to have your education paid for at a good school.
    2. The opportunity to play for a program that consistently wins 20 games a year in the Dakota Dome.
    3. Are they poised to take some lumps the next couple of years...yes, but what an experience playing Texas Tech, Marquette, Oregon State, Kansas State & Drake. His sophomore year they join the Summit and his Jr. & Sr. they are fully eligible for tourneys. Maybe being part of this process would be challenging & rewarding for the young man?
    4. They fell in love with Dykstra and all chips are in on his commitment. Trevor knew that and has moved on (with some extra motivation when these schools square off in the future).

The last 5 posts are all pretty much correct.......from what I hear (even though I have learned that players are not always accurate on these types of issues) something is going to happen sooner than later. Whether that's the Davis schollie situation, someone leaving, someone losing/forfeiting a schollie, I'm not quite sure.

A program just pulling a schollie without just cause is very rare and not a good idea.

In general those type of deals are for local recruits who aren't highly recruited.... Its hard to get a kid who has other offers and probably doesn't know much about SDSU to accept that type of a deal......

Maybe he meant by redshirting that yr, you won't draw off a scholarship for that year, but instead ,starting the scholarship period a year later, instead of 2010 scholarship, it would be offered as a 2011 scholarship, just guessing, don't even know if you can do that or not.Doing it that way , you would "salvage " another scholarship for a 2010 recruit, at the "expense" of a 2011 scholarship.

Remember, too, that scholies can be taken away from existing holders. I don't think that's very common at SDSU, but it's happened. I remember, long ago, coach Jim Thorsen creating controversy by taking away some basketball skolies from a player or two. That doesn't seem to be Coach Nagy's style, however. He seems to remain loyal to recruits, from beginning to end.

A player from 2010 could redshirt his first year (2010) and take a scholie for 2011. In other words, pay for his reshirt year knowing there will be a scholie in 2011 for the next 4 years.
