    Re: Predictions for final record?

Well I would like to remain in the positive and hope that they have a good season, I can only speak of the previous season but from what I hear, from seasons past, they are due for a good season.

Want to put $$ on it? Stick to the smack threads with that garbage. Go back to the HS Basketball section of the Argus forum, they're missing you over there.

You've got a long ways to go as far as credibility is concerned with this crowd if your 5th post contains BS like this.

This year will be good, plus 500, unless we have an injury to Kai, Ben or Mo. We have no depth behind them. What worries me is next year. Unless Anthony or Marc step we will be in a world of hurt after Ben and Mo leave.

OK, back on topic. I will go with the over .500 record. I say 15 - 14 overall and tied for fourth in the Summit League.

That and a few more wins would be nice. I think though, that even this year with still a bunch of young players, its going to be tough to come up with a winning season, but I think the chances are better this year than in the past three or so.

As far as Nagy being gone with a bad season, not so sure about that one. I think he will be given another two or three years. How we do in the Summit and what kind of crowds we draw will be bigger considerations. We have competited well against UMKC as a for instance and some of the other members so hopefully we will not be fighting to stay out of the basement.

If you get good crowds because of the double hitters and not because of being men only game, then the record starts to come into play. The administration no doubt will be paying attention to this factor as well.

I think the talent level is as good as its been in the entire transition period. It depends on how queickly all the young guys will come together as a team. Everyone has to put their high school days behind them and look forward. I think too the leadership is much better this year than what it has been.

It will no doubt be interesting to see what happens. A coaching change could be a mistake at this point in time. We are too new in the Summit and will be playoff eligible next year. If things start to come together, then for sure Nagy stays until his kids are old enough to play.

One final observation, the coaching staff is at least one person greater and that could make a difference from previous seasons. I know there are a ton of details to follow up on and with that one extra person, we just might do better in recruiting and building a good network amongst coaches, whether they are urban high schools or at Harold SD. Opps Harold HS is closing this year and has a graduating class of 4 young ladies, so that might not work, but there are other small schools who just might have a D1 athlete.

Success this season could be hard to measure in wins and losses. The real test comes in the 2008-2009 season when they need to bring it together enough to be respectable in the Summit League.

The Jacks are fully eligible that season so if they can put together one great week (ie: 3 wins in the Summit League Tourney), we could be talking NCAA Tourney. Granted it would be a first round loss to Duke, Kansas, Kentucky as a 15 or 16 seed, but that would be one 20-point loss that we could live at least the first time in the Big Dance.

I think that sets my guess up for SDSU to finish about 13-16, but 5-2 in their last 7 games with a possibility of NDSU falling at Frost to make it 6-1. I think this would be a success for the year. I believe Coach Nagy will play quite a few young players this year in preparation for Summit League championship eligibility next year. By the end of the year I think the Jacks will be able to compete with just about anyone on their schedule front to back outside of Minnesota.

                            Re: Predictions for final record?

U-Mary: Their three best players last season were two sophomores and a freshman and with the great recruiting class they got last year they might be able to hang for the first few minutes. With UND and NDSU going D1 that leaves U-Mary as the premier D2 institution in North Dakota.

On U-Mary's site, they have this game as an exhibition but a regular game on SDSU's schedule. Does it count for an exh. for U Mary and regular for SDSU?

It looks like all of the teams had success against U Mary last season by pounding it down low, it could get ugly if Kai, Ben and Mohammed drive it down low early. Mary's strengths are at the point and off-guard positions. I see a lot of players getting into the game in this one.

I predict SDSU finishing just under .500, maybe around there.

You are right about the game being an exhibition for Mary and regular season for SDSU.

I am not for sure how that works, but the same thing happened with University of Nebraska and University of Nebraska Omaha last year when they played.

                                6-23

                                or

                                23-6

I could go either way really.
