It's nice Cluff showed up. Nobody else did. Need a big infusion of talent before next season. A bunch of spotty three-point shooters won't cut it. This season goes down as a failure, plain and simple. Got beat by one player tonight. Gave up 51 to Eaglestaff. Played like dogcrap down the stretch. Not good enough.Last edited by JackFan96; 03-07-2025, 10:58 PM.Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

Young teams will be a regular feature with the portal. We will be lucky to keep the players we have, let alone have a big infusion of talent.
Us fans and boosters better up the NIL budget big time or this will be a familiar refrain. Jacks fans have been spoiled.
With NIL, we are truly a low major. Nothing mid about it.

once again, some of us show, how incredibly spoiled we are cheering for SDSU teams. does it suck to lost today? YES YES and um.....
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
but some of us literally seem to take it as a foregone conclusion that we will win 20+ games every year and win the SLT or at least play in the final.
WHY do some of us make those kind of assumptions? because our teams are so unbelievably consistently AWESOME. that is the whole story PERIOD. most fanbases NEVER expect their team to go to the NCAA except in the rare years that they have one of the best teams in program history
at SDSU, we barely think about debating the best team in school history, we just expect the current team to be THE NEXT great team!!
we are incredibly lucky. PERIOD
and this team, IN CASE YOU FORGOT, replaced EVERY starter from the team that played in the SLT last year. yes that is correct, EVERY starter is GONE!! and what did we do? oh just were in contention for the regular season championship going into the final day!
ok that all said, it is TOUGH to decipher WHAT happened to our shooting the last 2-3 weeks. and losing Owen definitely did not help that. he was shooting it well and playing his best offense of the year in his last couple weeks. so that explains a little of the shooting problem. we lost very arguably the person who was shooting the best of anyone. what happened to our other shooters? i guess i could make a few theories, but it is kind of a puzzler
as for tonight:
1. tip your hat to Eaglestaff. nobody can say his night is totally due to the Jacks playing badly. he still is the one who took and made the shots
that said, he IS clearly their best player and he should NOT get a very open look from the top of the key on their first possession!!
then we kept trying to take away the drive, as well as getting caught without a hand up, and we just let him have too many looks from 3 that were too good
then we adjusted. we tried to deny the ball and did a solid job. and when he caught the ball we worked harder to force him to put it on the floor
they adjusted to more ball screens
we took WAY WAY TOO LONG to adjust to the ball screens
way before King started hitting 3s we should have just said ANY time someone screens for Eaglestaff, just double Eaglestaff and make someone else take the ball
do quicker adjustments make the difference? i often feel like the first step is the most important one. DONT let someone get hot. but he did seem to start feeling it pretty quick
I would have to go back and look at play by play, but I believe even with us making almost NO SHOTS (seriously 5 out of 30 something in the second half. i cannot EVER remember a worse shooting half for a Jacks team. and i really cannot remember any team shooting this badly for this long as we have the last few weeks. nuts!!!) we still in position to win the game...
until the players OTHER than Eaglestaff started to hit shots
King who seems WILDLY streaky, gets going on a freak long bounce O Board off of a badly missed 3. then proceeds to hit 2 more 3s to help put the game away
to be honest, I always hate it when people say you win with defense. our team proved that is tough to do both tonight and for the last couple weeks. could we have guarded Eaglestaff better and made some adjustments quicker? SURE! but it would be tough to say we defended him badly!! he hit PLENTY of well guarded shots and he worked his tail off to get space and shots
take him out of it and we guarded the rest of them fantastic. honestly, think about how tough that is when you cannot throw a pea in the ocean on the other end. I absolutely believe in defense!! DEFENSE matters!! that is why I hated watching the otzelberger teams. they treated defense like it was an old wives tail. their idea of defense was more offense. so dont get me wrong here. defense is very important
BUT, I also believe that teams get their energy ALMOST always on the offensive end of the floor. and when the offense goes BAD, like it did tonight, it is very tough to keep busting your tail on D
I thought we played very hard on D for all but the last 90 seconds or so. that is HARD TO DO and the guys deserve plenty of credit.
so all in all, losing SUCKS!! losing in the SLT sucks more!!! but it is wildly stupid and unfair to call this year a failure. really the most important part of our team was 1 senior (lindsay never had a very important role until Owen got hurt), 1 Junior, 1 sophomore, and FIVE yes FIVE Freshman
if you dont want to call it a great season. ok I can see that. calling it a failure??? like I said you are just showing how unbelievably great this athletic program is and how spoiled you / we are
good season. bummmmmer ending LOTS to look forward to. and remember we have another HIGHLY regarded Freshman who did not play this year. a 6'6 guard!! i have heard plenty of people who think he is going to be AWESOME but needed this year to add some muscle and pounds

at one point tonight we had Wilkinson, Hadnot, and Barnett on the floor together. we had some momentum in the first half and it came to a crashing halt when that lineup was on the floor. that seems pretty silly. sorry but if you are going to go with a BIG lineup it needs to be Oscar, Mors, and Hadnot
if for some reason you like something Barnett is giving and you want him in there then he goes in for one of Mors or Hadnot but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE do you put Wilkinson in too
that said, I did think it felt like after a great start to the second half that Mors was off the floor a lot? i do not know for sure if that is true but it did feel that way and he was bringing more energy than anyone else tonight, but...
just like everyone else he looked BAD shooting from 3 and he had some great looks
