  • Postseason time 2025

congratulations to all the post season award winners!!

    Questions (of varying importance!):

    1. why does SL WBB have an all Freshman team but SL MBB has none? is it important? probably not very but it does seem a bit curious

    2. I don't feel like looking back at the moment. anyone know when was the last time the Jacks had neither of the MBB or WBB POY? it feels like it has been a while, but maybe i am wrong

    3. anyone feel good about picking a favorite to win the SLT?

Losing Owen hurts, but I still think we have a solid chance to take the title. I do believe we are going to need to shoot it better from the outside than we have been lately.

I guess it is obvious when you are choosing between one team and a group of teams, there is some advantage to picking the group. that said, UNO had a GREAT season and they finished strong after losing to us in Brookings. they deserve credit for going to Tulsa and beating ORU by 20+ when the Eagles recently knocked off STU

ALL that said, I strongly doubt that UNO makes it to the title game. they are going to have a VERY tough first round game against whoever wins between UMKC and ORU. that is a very quality play in game!! after that I expect they will face NDSU. USD has had a nice season and they play hard. i expect they give the bison a good fight, but it will be an upset if they beat NDSU in the tournament

On OUR side of the bracket, can we beat UND and likely STU if we continue to shoot not very well from 3? I think it is possible, but it means total domination of the boards. we would have to win the rebound battle by 20+

If we can figure out how to get out offense moving without Owen we have a chance. The ORU and DU game our offense just seemed kind of stuck in the mud for large portions of the game.

Castora is reporting Moni will be out this week.

Tough blow for NDSU. They were a sneaky pick with Moni. Not so much anymore.

LGR The POY has been held by many Jackrabbits. Since 2016-17 Mike Daum has had 3 POY awards. The next year 2019-20 Doug Wilson won the distinction. Baylor Scheierman won in 2021-22. Zeke Mayo won 2023-24. Max Abmas won 2020-21 & 2022-23. Nate Wolters won in 2012-13 and he should have won the prior year as well. That info is on Page 57 of this year's Summit League $10 program.

NLA/HH podcast said Izzo suspected earlier in the week that it was a broken wrist. Gotta feel for the guy. All that work he did at NSU & to follow it up with a tremendous D1 season where the top hoop people were talking about his stats/efficiency and people speculating about draft stuff

            WOW!!
super crappy for Moni and for NDSU! huge break for USD and UNO. can the bison pull off a win without Moni? I think it is definitely possible, but the odds are also strongly against it. I am expecting UNO to get a good fight from KC tonight

I don't think Moni played in Fargo recently when USD had their last minute meltdown up there. I could see that game going either way with or without him tomorrow night. I've never felt so much up in the air with a men's tourney. I wouldn't be shocked if a low seed won it and I wouldn't be surprised if Omaha handily won the title as well. Going to be an exciting tournament but more fun if the Jacks are the ones on top.

I agree USD can beat NDSU without Moni. Actually he was basically their whole offense the second half against the Jacks in Brookings. Huge blow.

NDSU will make it close though. I think they can both give Omaha fits, NDSU with Moni would be the more likely to beat them...

I think we'll be alright in the opening round, unless UND goes bananas behind the 3 point line again.

Second round... St Thomas, we are better than. But... will be tough without Owen.

may I ask why? just to cheer against USD? I can understand that, but I dont think USD can beat UNO and NDSU minus Moni seems very unlikely to beat them also. despite my thoughts before the tourney, the Mavs should be waiting for whoever comes from the Jacks half of the bracket. (pre Moni injury news, I would have picked the Bison to come out of that half)

anyone paying attention to the games tonight? I am not cheering for either team in the UD vs UST game, but it sure seems to me like the tommies are getting away with a HUGE amount of contact. there have been multiple drives by Denver where the driver is getting unquestionably pushed off of his path to the hoop- no call

we lost a game to each of these teams, so I will be happy with another chance to beat either one, if we are fortunate to win the rubber game with the Fn hawks

although I was not rooting for either team, I would say that Dobbs and Barnstable are not difficult to root against. if I saw them walking around with a big rip in the seat of their trousers, I think I would just smile and keep my mouth shut))

today in our girls game, AJ pulls the starters with over 5:30 remaining- or most of them. I think he left MM on the floor. she was replaced a bit later by Kolbeck.

in the last MBB game tonight, there is a timeout with about 2:30 remaining. tommies up by 25. The Doctor sends at least 3, I think 4 starters back on the floor. Denver really does not look good. not sure how they won 5 of their last 6?? obviously vs us they shot beyond their wildest dreams and we were likely still adjusting a bit to life post Owen, but they dont look good at all.

That's what the Tommies do they push the envelope and usually get away with a lot when they pkay defense, and then somehow also flop a lot trying to draw calls. Oh and they cry constantly when they are on offense.
