When Wilkinson slid in front of him early in the season, he disappeared as the backup post. There are more post type players like Squires and Goodbury lining up for some time as well. Willie played with great energy. Hopefully he can find a good place to land.

Hate to say it but our roster will look different if Hendo leaves. I wonder what Hendo's position is on coach leaves and do you take players with you or not?

If Hendo does leave, Justin Sell has offered jobs to qualified assistants if he believes they are a good choice to lead programs. Looking from the outside, it would appear that Bryan Petersen and Klink would be possible hires. If that would happen, I'm not sure that there would be a lot of player movement.

If you were Hendo and got the job at Drake, which of our players would you want to take with you? Cluff obviously. Who else?

I know I was pleasantly surprised this year with how good we were and being so young. I am also aware that the Summit League is trash so being good in a bad league has to be taken into account.

There is also the thought of starting at a new place with some from the old so that you have guys that understand what you are trying to do and can help with the buy in.
One hand points to campus...the other to the liquor store.

An internal hire gives us the best chance to retain players. Look what happened with the football team compared to what happened when TJ left. We lost very few players when TJ left (Grill and Jenkins only?). The football situation was a disaster.

We beat McNeese and dropped a 1 pt contest to Boise State who was on the NCAA bubble. We were inconsistent (being as young as we were probably contributed to that) but there is talent on the roster.

I agree 100%. I don't know enough about basketball to get a sense if our guys would be sought after. I think some would be, but who should we be watching?

I wouldn't say I am living in fear, but there is a good chance if our coach leaves we will have 4 or 5 potential returning players. That doesn't at all concern you?

Where we are at in the D-I food change, players come and go. Coaches come and go. We've had a lot less of the latter than a lot of places which have seen similar success.

To fix the problem requires a LOT more money than is available. Actually, there **is** no fix to the problem, given that a look around at the rest of college athletics reveals a seriously, profoundly dysfunctional system.

So, it is what it is. We do what we can with what we have, like we always have.
                        "I think we'll be OK"

I don't pretend to know what a solution is but at some point there needs to be some structure.

Can you imagine the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. where there were no contracts and players could leave at any point? It'd be total chaos. That's the scenario right now in college basketball. How as a coaching staff are you supposed to plan for next year? How as a coaching staff are you supposed to "coach" a player. Bench a guy because he isn't giving enough effort or for some other reason? Fine, I'll transfer.

This isn't just an SDSU problem. It affects the big programs as much as the smaller guys.

If the NCAA doesn't implement some structure to this mess it will eventually a negative effect on college basketball as a whole.

If I remember correctly, Otz met with Justin Sell before leaving for Iowa State to develop a succession plan. I would anticipate the same would happen with Hendo if/when the time comes.
