My expectation was that they could win Summit title. They still can, so I'm withholding judgment. I've seen nothing that leads me to believe Coach Henderson should bear the brunt of the blame, and I think the manner with which he's handled Freidel's situation and a disrupted season speaks to his ability to adapt and hold himself and others accountable.

I see you're agreeing with filbert now that it's not all on the coach, so yes or no, are you asking them to edit the ridiculous thread title?

I'm an absolute homer, so my expectations have a severe pro-Jacks bias. They could be playing the Tar Heels or Duke, and I'd think there'd be an outside chance they could win. Having said that, I don't put much stock in preseason coach and media team rankings, partially because I don't research other teams in conference that much, and partially because, as I've mentioned, I tend to "lean toward" the Jacks winning.

I am always disappointed when they lose.

Nevertheless, I've played and watched enough sports to know that not all losses are attributable to coaching inadequacy.

And how about you stop saying "it's simple" when you're vacillating between ranting about a coach's inability to win big games and then backtracking and saying the team's not meeting expectations. Those are two completely different statements, and people are generally responding to your first rant

I'm pretty sure Henderson didn't tell his team "hey guys, make sure you go out and play like crap and while you're at it, shoot the ball even worse!"

I think USD's kind of in the SDSU men's team's heads right now for whatever reason. Dealing with that is on the coach, but playing good basketball is on the players. It's not like they haven't shown that they can do that. A team that pretty much plays toe to toe with West Virginia shouldn't look like they looked against USD, unless it's a mental thing.

One of the ongoing criticisms of SDSU MBB teams over the years has been that they just aren't "tough enough." That's a program culture thing, not just a coach thing, I think. Seems to me that SDSU in general (the entire community, not just the basketball program itself) prefers "pretty" basketball--that is, finesse ball, shooting, passing...generally, offense rather than defense, and not the tough, gritty, get in their shorts/foul up and down the court 'cause they can't call them all that we always complain about from the likes of NDSU and USD among others. It ain't just the coach, IMHO.

Don't disagree at all. Bottom line, someone needs to be responsible. We can still save this season, but things need to change. Good post!!
