GDT: SDSU Jackrabbits(10-1) vs Omaha Mavericks(8-2) @ Baxter Arena

This is an important game for the Jackrabbits and it is an important game for the Mavs. It would certainly widen the road for #1 seed with a Jackrabbit win. The Mavs would certainly gain more stature following a preseason pick of 8th in the Summit. The Mavs have a solid starting 5 that all average double figure scoring. They have 3 off the bench in rotation for 40 minutes/game. Pile and Hahn team up for 13.5 rebounds/game. The Mavs could be playing in front of the largest home crowd tonight. Earlier USD pulled 2132 and UND pulled 2000+ into Baxter. I am speculating that some Jackrabbit faithful will set a larger number tonight as some extra Omaha fans might come to see this game as well. Expect the focus of the Jackrabbits to continue to enlarge. Barring an exceptional game from Omaha, this game should maintain first place for Jackrabbits. Go Jacks!!

A win tonight would all but slam the door shut for the #1 seed. Omaha is a tough matchup and will take a good game to come out of Baxter with a win.

If we lose and I expect a win, we would be tied with the Mav's for 1st with two losses each. However, I fully expect the Mavs to have two more losses this season. Three games in Omaha against SDSU, PFW, and Western Illinois. Then on the road to Fargo and Tulsa to end the season. They've been efficient, but they have to outscore opponents. If they struggle to shoot in a game like our Rabbits did against UND, they will likely lose. They are giving up a league worst 81.4 pts/game, ten more points per game than SDSU.

Play tight defense, rebound the ball well and shoot better than we did against UND from behind the arc and the Jacks win by 8. FYI - UNO now leads the Summit in 3-point shooting percentage at 41.6%. SDSU fell to 5th at 38.9%.

If the Jacks would lose tonight, and end up tied with Omaha at the end of the season, the Jacks should win the tiebreaker as long as Fort Wayne finishes above ORU.

This isn't correct. If there is a tie and the head to head is split they start comparing records against other teams starting from the top down. Without another loss, Omaha would sweet Fort Wayne and we would be 1-1 (assuming we win at Frost).

Of course this assumes Fort Wayne finishes 3rd. If ORU finishes 3rd we would win the tie breaker.

That first half could not have gone too much better. Only 30 points allowed to a high-scoring opponent, got two fouls on three of their starters and scored a big pile of points on the other end. Dentlinger held his own and allowed Arians to sit. King is all over Jackson too. Impressive.

And then Tevin got absolutely run over on a drive, and was a no-call. Daum did a good job of getting through the half with only one foul after getting an early one. Need to go down low to him early and get Pile in foul trouble.
