ORLANDO, FL - Two players who were among the walking wounded on last year’s South Dakota State men’s basketball team combined for 51 points
Friday as the Jackrabbits opened the 2003-04 season with a 97-82 victory over Philadelphia University at the Disney Division II Tip-Off
Classic.

Matt Jones missed all of last season because of an illness, but led the Jacks with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Andy Moeller, who played in just four games as he nursed a foot injury, added 25 points and nine rebounds.

SDSU broke away midway in the first half to open a 29-13 lead, following a layup by Moeller with 9:51 to play. It was 53-38 at halftime.

SDSU owned a commanding 61-33 rebounding advantage.

SDSU, now 1-0 for the season, will play Kennesaw State on Saturday.

Thanks for the updates tonight 89. It sounds like we rolled pretty good tonight, against a quality school. now we need another 30 games like this one. What a huge rebounding advantage(2-1)! I'm not surprised by that our lineup can be huge if coach Nagy desires. Question-How many games can the true freshmen play before loosing redshirt eligibility?

Two players who were among the walking wounded on last year's South Dakota State men's basketball team combined for 51 points Friday as the Jackrabbits opened the season with a 97-82 win over Philadelphia University at the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic in Orlando, Fla.

Matt Jones had 26 points and 16 rebounds and Andy Moeller added 25 points and nine rebounds for the Jackrabbits. Jones missed all of last season because of an illness, while Moeller played in just four games as he nursed a foot injury.

Joe Green had 12 points and Calvin Melaney 10 for SDSU, which opened a 29-13 lead midway through the first half and led 53-38 at halftime. SDSU outrebounded Philadelphia 61-33.

Tayron Thomas led Philadelphia with 26 points.
