  • UND MENS BB WOES CONTINUE

An article this morning in the Grand Forks Herald tells that they were just starting to get their act together and now there are two injuries. UND is always tough in Basketball, but this may not be true this year.

COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: Injuries decimate UND men's basketball
Nobles, Parks lost to the Sioux with knee troubles
    By Virg Foss
    Herald Staff Writer

The UND men's basketball team, which appeared to have righted itself after losing three of its first four games, has taken a major blow.

The Sioux (4-3), winners of three straight games, have lost two of their top three scorers to knee injuries.

Leading scorer Keith Parks, who averages 16.1 points a game, may be through for the season after injuring a knee in Saturday's victory over Concordia-St. Paul.

Caro Nobles, third on the team in scoring with a 12.8 average, has missed the last two games with a knee injury.

UND coach Rich Glas said Monday that Parks apparently tore both the MCL and ACL ligaments in his knee. "He's probably through for the year," Glas said. "It doesn't look good."

Glas said that Nobles will have additional tests on his knee today. "We'll know more about him then, but he won't be playing any time soon," Glas said.

There's little time for the Sioux to make adjustments. They play three games this week, at Northern (S.D.) State on Wednesday and home games with Bemidji State and Minnesota-Duluth on Friday and Saturday.

"We've got to fight through this," Glas said.

Both Parks and Nobles are junior transfers who were looked at as being team leaders.

The Sioux have three others players averaging in double figures in Mike Johnson (13), Todd Rypkema (11.5) and Evan Lindahl (10.7), but the injuries to Parks and Nobles take away two of UND's best players.

Its becoming clear to me that SDSU was and will be the top team in the NCC. The North Dakota schools are down and SCSU is beating DIII schools by small margins. The best we can hope for is a split with you guys. We did beat BSU by 9 at home (should have been more) and that is our only "quality" win so far. If we lose to St. Johns on sat i may jump off the University Bridge into the Mississippi. (jk)

Good luck this year and beat USD. Nobody can stand that Mueller kid. > What a prick!

I think SDSU's basketball program will do fine at the DI level.

Agreed, SDSU the major favorite, and then it is anyone's guess. Does anyone know the conference playoff format for this year? With 8 teams, will the top seven make the playoff, or will they take all eight?
