I wasn’t on here discussing him but he’s completely changed the way he’s been playing. Credit goes to the coaches. Needs to be able to take an open three and get the team into the offense quicker, but he’s been awesome. I feel like there’s more standing around with him at point but it was much better in the Denver game compared to ORU (who played zone). The zone probably had more to do with it than anything. SDSU’s offense was more deliberate and crisp today against Denver.

Key is not a scorer, he is a facilitator...when he plays like a facilitator it really shows.

4-0. Great start to the conference season. What's really encouraging is the Jacks seem to be getting better, game to game, largely because of improving depth. Hopefully, nickel and dime injuries don't slow the progress.

          Great start to conference.

In reference to Key I feel his time on the bench was extremely beneficial and a great move for the long term by Otz. He seems to now fully understand his role and strengths. He is driving and passing out to the guys who are far better shooters than him. Keep taking open layups to keep them honest. Incredibly efficient play.

Same with Howell. You haven’t seen the wild drives, turnovers, and shots every time he touches the ball. He’s crashing the boards, keeping the ball moving, and playing solid D. His strengths!

Maybe an odd time to say it after a big game but Jenkins is the last guy I would like to see reigned in a little. His ability to make tough shots on the move is very valuable. Those shots are not valuable with 22 seconds on the shot clock with our propensity to move the ball around and get good looks. Needs to learn when those tough shots are appropriate.

We have a GREAT team that the coaching staff seems to be improving.....

Teams that are playing well usually don't like a week off between games, but it may be coming at a good time for the Jacks. Telly can use the time to rehab his ankle, and we have a few players who are playing big minutes whose legs might be a little tired. Plus it helps that we don't have to play a contender in the first game back.

This game against Denver was really impressive in my eyes. Why?

              1. This may have been Daum's most impressive game offensively. He hit shots from everywhere with guys all over him and had the crowd and Denver shaking their heads. Simply amazing.
              2. Jenkins was smooth and knocking shots down. He was also very physical in driving to the basket. Still hard to believe he is a true freshman.
              3. Key was excellent in both games this weekend. Was under control offensively and his quickness defensively was really disruptive to Denver. More of this PLEASE! He made a big impact.

Still going to harp on how the team still needs to get tougher on defense. Just giving up too many layups. Late in the game Daum had only one foul and let a guy right around him for a layup. I can see the argument that his job early in the game is to stay out of foul trouble but with under 5 to go and only one foul he needs to contest those. There were other examples. There were stretches of solid defense played this weekend though and progress is being made. They can win Summit games without great defense but if the goal is to win a game or two in the tournament then that needs to improve a lot. We've got 10 more games to get it done.

Overall, what's not to love? We are 4-0 in the conference, improving game by game, and reasonably healthy. A light year ahead of last year!
