  • GPAC games (DWU and U. of Sioux Falls)

It is time for our GPAC victims to come to Frost.  The Dakota Wesleyan University Tigers are off to a 6-8 start.  Some games of note include a big loss to St. Cloud 91-62, loss to Si Tanka 87-77, and a lose to Sioux Falls 71-56.  Mostly local kids on the team, kind of an avg. team height wise.  Looks like all the Jacks will get to play.

The University of Sioux Falls Cougars are 10-4.  Games of note for the Cougars include a win and a loss to Si Tanka, and a loss to our old pals Morningside 66-61 down in Sioux City.  USF will be playing Valley City State up in North Dakota the night before they play us (long bus ride).

USF has three kids who transferred to them.  They are   Steve Esselink from the University of Minnesota (leading scorer in many of their games), Matt Begeman from Augie, and JD Roberts from USD (another guy who can score).  The other guy it looks like we need to be aware of is Beau Fitts, a Sr. from Brandon Valley.  The Cougars should give the Rabbits a little better test, however this one should be another 15 point margin of victory.

Here is a little story about the upcoming game from the Mitchell paper The Daily Repuplic.

    http://www.mitchellrepublic.com/main...nID=87&S=1

SDSU men open season 11-0; USD opens at 6-1

By ANDY RENNECKE, The Daily Republic

The South Dakota State men’s basketball team is on a roll.

The Jackrabbits are off to an 11-0 start and are on top of the North Central Conference in the early going. St. Cloud State is in second place with an 8-1 mark.

NCC teams don’t actually open league play until Jan. 3

SDSU is on a nine-day break from its schedule due to final exams. Last Tuesday the Jacks edged out a 75-74 win over Concordia-St. Paul.

The Jacks trailed by 15 points at halftime to Concordia. But SDSU chipped away at the lead and took its first lead of the game with 17 seconds left when Alpena native Matt Jones hit one of two free throws.

In the game, SDSU held an astounding 42-24 rebound advantage. The Jacks’ work on the glass is a trait for which they are known.

Freshman Joe Green is fourth in the NCC in rebounding at 6.6 rebounds a game and Jones is right behind him in sixth place averaging 6.5 boards a contest.

As a team, SDSU is outrebounding opponents by 15.2.

Junior guard Andy Moeller continues to pace the Jacks, averaging 15.5 points a game, which is good enough for seventh in the conference. Jones is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.7.

Thursday, Dakota Wesleyan (6-8) travels to face SDSU at 8 p.m. at Frost Arena.

    Go Jacks!

GPAC games (DWU and U. of Sioux Falls)

      From the DWU web site.

      DWU ready to tackle SDSU

The DWU men have improved drastically over last season’s 5-27 record and enter the game with a 6-8 record. The Tigers could have several more wins with a little bit of luck. In the team’s eight losses, they had leads late in the second half in three games and either had the lead or was tied at halftime in three others.

David Nour, Armour, continues his outstanding season averaging 17.6 points per game. He also has 58 assists and 29 steals through the first 14 games.

Kory Petoske, Midland, also continues his solid play. He averages 12.9 points and 5.2 rebounds a game. Petoske is also closing in on scoring his 1,000-career point. He will enter the game with 911.

Michael Stevenson, Smyrna, Del., leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.9 per game. He is also averaging 9.7 points and has a team-high 20 blocked shots on the season.

We will see if they are ready to tackle SDSU.   :

Re: GPAC games (DWU and U. of Sioux Falls)

DWU and SF College are probably just the medicine STATE needs to get their swagger back after getting their ego's bruised by CSP. I think the scare in St. Paul was good for this team, They hadnt even had an opponet test them yet. I chalk it up to a 'character builder" game. I always like to predict, and the NSIC guest poster does'nt like it... so here goes...
        SDSU 106
        DWU 69

        SDSU 99
        SFC 70

        GO RABBITS GO RABBITS !!

Another Story from the Mitchell paper:

            http://www.mitchellrepublic.com/Main...ArticleID=8658

The DWU men’s team is 6-8 and also plays at SDSU tonight. SDSU is 11-0 and has won 22 straight home games.

Wesleyan’s David Nour is fifth in the GPAC in scoring per game (17.6), sixth in assists per game (4.14), 10th in free-throw percentage (.805) and fifth in steals per game (2.07).

Also for Wesleyan, Michael Stevenson is No. 3 in blocked shots per game (1.43) and Kory Petoske is No. 6 in offensive rebounds (2.36).

Petoske averages 13 points and five rebounds a game and is closing in on his 1,000th career point, the school has announced. He enters today’s game with 911 points.

Michael Stevenson leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.9 per game. He is also averaging 9.7 points and has a team-high 20 blocked shots on the season.

Northwestern leads the men’s conference standings with a 5-0 record, followed by Sioux Falls, which is 4-1 in the league, and Concordia, Morningside and Doane, all of which are 4-2.

GPAC players of the week this week are Jaime Woudstra, Northwestern, and Bryshonne Bryant, Doane.

Woudstra had 12 blocked shots in two games last week and also averaged 16 points and 14 rebounds. Bryant averaged 16 points, six assists and four rebounds last week.

Final Score SDSU 85 DWU 61.  Not a great game in sooo many ways, but a win is a win! Jones was not feeling well before the game, and then hurt his knee. Lets hope his not playing in the second half was precautionary in nature.
