Video for both games tonight too. It will be great to finally see the new-look team in action. I don't expect anything like last year, but I assume it will take a month or so to get everyone on the same page. At least this year TJ is very familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of a bunch of his returning players. That should speed things up.

7 point favorites according to Vegas. Seems a bit high to me, but I get it with as much attention as Daum has garnered and our record at home. However, UC Irvine is no slouch. Having said that, I'm going to call a 10 point victory to kick the season off right.

Just checked my favorites on the ESPN score banner. NJIT is playing SDASU at 6, UCI is playing SDST at 8:30 and tomorrow ILL St is playing SDSU at 2! Amazing! Go Jacks!!

31-31 at the half. UC Irvine nailed a full court shot at the end of the half but it was waved off.

Jacks shooting has been okay beyond the arc and dreadful inside it. Only 1 two point field goal on the half.

The good news is our defense is actually looking pretty good, though the rebounding has been lopsided in the Anteaters' favor.

Daum doesn't have a field goal (4-4 from the FT line). Telly and Jenkins are our leading scores since they are the ones knocking down the outside shots.

Actually glad it's the defense looking good instead of the offense (if I had to pick one). We would have been down 20 if we shot the ball and rebounded like this at this time last year, but instead we're tied at half.

Key likely won't come blazing out of the gate, but I think he'll settle in and be comfortable by the time conference play comes around. Might have an Orris-like trajectory on the season.

Considering Daum's first 28 minutes, I'm THRILLED to see us up by 8 with 11:00 to go. That's a really good sign long term.
