  • Who's hot, Who's not.

With the tourney being wide open, it may come down to which teams are playing their best right now.

    South Dakota-Won 6 straight and 8 of 9 HOT
North Dakota St-4-4 in their last 8 NOT
    Omaha-Won their last 3 and 5 of 7 HOT
FT Wayne-3-4 in their last 7, 5-7 in their last 12 after a 3-1 start NOT
    Denver-Lost last 3 and 4 of 5 NOT
South Dakota St-Won 3 straight and 6 of 8 HOT
IUPUI-4-3 in their last 7. 2 wins at UNO and Denver. HOT OR NOT?
Western-Does it matter? Lost 6 of 7 NOT

I partially agree with this, but it's the tournament and March Madness. Anything can happen. Confidence can be a big key part going in, but motivation to prove yourself can really push teams this week during practices. Case in point: ORU against us last year. Denver will probably be trying to do the same thing. Look out for everyone (except ORU)!

Usually I think a team needs a year to figure out how to win in the playoffs our a tourney before they can move on. I feel SDSU and NDSU have as good as a shot as any. Teams and players that have been there, have had to handle the pressure etc. I know its not exactly the same, but look a the cubs, 2 years ago, finally made the playoffs, last year, won it all. The pirates, have been to the playoffs several years but couldn't take that next step. frankly NDSU is the only team I worry playing. They don't seem to lose any confidence against us. I am impressed with how USD turned a year of question marks into their best year yet so far. That bodes well for the the future of the summit, atleast from the Dakotas side of things.

          Re: Who's hot, Who's not.

18-22 year old kids, high-pressure, big crowds, bright lights, the fatigue of multiple games.... Someone will get in foul trouble, someone will roll an ankle, an 89% FT shooter will miss the front end of a one-and-one at crunch time. Hot or not, it's hard to predict how each team will respond. The narrow gap in talent between 1 and 8 this year makes each little mistake (or heroic play) magnified.

I do agree with what you are saying. For the tournament, I believe being the #1 and #2 seeds get a significant advantage in the tournament...so the odds favor USD and NDSU...but I don't believe NDSU has what it takes this year to string together enough victories. That leaves USD. I've watched a few of their games, including Saturday's game, and they have impressed me. They have good ball movement and can do a lot of damage. NDSU's offense is sporadic. If the 3's aren't falling we are dead. If SDSU had the #2 seed I'd say they'd have as good a shot as anybody as they are playing great now...but not getting that advantage I believe will be enough for them to lose once.

And frankly we have been inconsistent for most of the year, we are banking on finishing strong, and playing 3 days of great ball to win it. Not easily done.

Serious question: did we ever cut down nets at frost when we won the league title?

Can't say for sure, but with Nagy at the helm I think it's highly unlikely.

Did "they" cut down the nets when they got back from Indy?

I had seen on Twitter that the USD men did this, and to my recollection neither of our teams ever had.

                        Who's hot, Who's not.

Over playing on Massey, and Denver is favored by a point over the Jacks, so dead heat per Massey. Hopefully, Frost South comes through again for the Jacks men.

Likewise, per Massey, Jacks WBB are favored 66% to 34% for all 3 of top 4 teams. Jacks range between the 2nd to 4th best Mid-major team depending on rating platforms. I'd say if Jacks make final, and lose tight one, and Creighton & UNI win their conferences, with no team "surprising" in the majors, Jacks may get a shot. Best scenario, of course, is to win Summit tourney.

It might be that the first segment is concerning MBB and the second segment is referring to WBB. It is a perennial activity to guess which year the Summit would have two WBB teams in the Big Dance.

NDSU is the favorite on the men's side. Been there done that, USD hasn't and hopefully plays us. NDSU is the only team I'm scared of, we could lay an egg against Denver as well.
