TJ has said that both Hess and Reed's natural position is the 4 - before Hess got hurt, he played the 3, and Reed the 4. In recent games, Reed has played the 3 with Severyn starting. When Hess returns, hopefully Reed stays outside and Hess shares time at the 4 with Lane. Telly seems to have regained confidence in his shot since moving more to the perimeter. Next year when we gain a couple of 6'8 players and Theisen hopefully gets healthy, Reed can stay at the 3.

I'm a little leery of saying that Reed's shot has returned. I'm not sure some of you saw the first half when he was throwing up bricks and air balls. We really need him to shoot well as he, Daum, and Hess are probably our best perimeter shooters. Wallace and Flatten can bring that element, but have been inconsistent. In fact the thing really holding us back is the lack of consistent outside shooters. It would be great if a couple of these guys would get hot here at the end of the season. And Severyn just really needs to stop shooting outside shots, period.

The first half of this ballgame was some of the most putrid displays of shooting (from both teams) I have seen. There were a number of air balls, bricks, and 3 unintentional bank shots. U.G.L.Y.

And I hope Flatten continues to get minutes. The turning point in this game for me was when he blocked a shot on one end and then came down and knocked down an open 3. The momentum from that is what got us to start to pull away.

I know TJ has gotten some grief, but I feel good that he has shown the ability to make adjustments in the 2nd half and come out and actually win games. I'm sure there was a transition for him and figuring out how to be "the man" in terms of leading a team. So hats off to him. The multiple defenses we have played this year have morphed into mainly a man defensive team that sprinkles in some zone just to get teams out of rhythm. I like it.

I'm a little leery of saying that Reed's shot has returned. I'm not sure some of you saw the first half when he was throwing up bricks and air balls. Multiple times during the first half Tyler M. honestly speculated that they might be using a women's ball! So many shots way too strong for both teams.

I agree about the second half adjustment we've started to see. During the first couple months of the season it seemed like we were at our best early and then would get crushed early in the second half. Several of the worst negative
Nancys here pointed to that as a reason we should have hired Ryan Miller (half kidding).

I'm just an ignorant fan but I'd like to see Hess work his way into the games from the bench. We've been doing pretty well without him and we are definitely lacking a potent scorer on the bench that can come in and provide a burst of energy. Flatten/Severyn/King will see less minutes but they have shown that they are important pieces going forward. We will need the depth if we happen to get through the first round of the SLT.

Reed was 0-3 in the first half. He might of had 1-brick and 2-air balls or 2-bricks and 1-air ball but I don't know we can judge a ton on 3 shots. I don't remember his shots exactly to remember for sure.

I remember TJ saying that both Hess and Reed's natural position was the 4, too. The question I have is that since you have Hess out and Reed doesn't play the 4, why isn't Reed playing the 4 now? SDSU had to play zone because neither Hess or Reed could guard the 3 and now Reed is guarding the 3 even though he doesn't have to. I think TJ is realizing that Reed can play the 3.
Of well, TJ is figuring his team out and learning more about his players all the time.

There were plenty of bricks to go around in the first half at 38%. FT shooting was less than expected at 58%. 3 pt shooting was 12.5%. Whatever happened at halftime, it certainly made things go better in the second half. All of the stat lines bounced nicely in the second half. It is like the players all found a stone in their shoe that needed to be removed and they were able to get after the ball better. It was a great home court win that extends the streak to 4.

The first half was a combination of nerves and WAY TOO MANY WHISTLES. Pfifer crew had a crappy first half and that affected the flow. Jacks showed discipline by playing great defense despite the offensive struggle. Reed has turned things up and that is critical. I think it's safe to say we can count on Reed, Daum, Orris, Hess and Howell. They have enough experience and talent to handle the "big game". Lane, Tevin and Skyler just haven't gotten enough time to be trusted in that role. Doesn't mean they won't be really important parts of a post-season run, they absolutely will and have to be at their best.

The keys for this team are getting Daum involved early, drawing fouls and getting to the bonus early and making a decent percentage of 3's. When Howell and Orris penetrate it helps a bunch. I'd like to see them role Daum out top a little more often as well. Goes without saying that the defense and rebounding has to be a priority. USD got way too many east looks and simply outscored the Jacks.

In the six games since Hess was injured, Reed is shooting 20-46 or 43.5% from three point land. That includes 1-6 in the first game he switched. In the last three games, he is 15-30. Don't know if he can continue that, but he is definitely trending in the right direction.

It's worth noting that TJ and Tyler have commented several times in the last week or so about the extra time Reed has been putting in shooting. Sounds like he's upped his extra work significantly recently. Probably has more to do with his better shooting than Hess being out.

I'm hopeful we can get Ian back soon as well. Playing him and Daum at the same time will open the floor up even more.

Good, crucial win for the Jacks. To loosen up the lane area for Daum and the dribble drivers, Telly will need to keep shooting (and hitting) from the outside. Hopefully Hess will be able to regain his shooting touch quickly and help. Severyn has a nice looking outside shot. I'm surprised that he hasn't been very accurate. Maybe he can get better, too.

Pfifer needs to tone it down a notch. He's like the Joey Crawford of the Summit League right now. He makes too many calls both ways and gets too excited a lot of the time. There were so many plays both ways last night where he needed to just swallow his whistle. I heard so many people around me talking about him consistently, and a ref should not be that prominent in a game.

The most important person in the gym when Pfeifer refs is Pfeifer. 49 fouls last night or something like that. Unwatchable.
