  • 2nd Week of January and still no set rotation

Shame on the coaching staff for not having a set rotation this late in the season. I'm no college coach but I do know something about chemistry and don't see how your developing it with all the rotation changes. Skylar has shown signs of really shaking the rust off after 1.5 years but the inconsistency of his playing time will not allow him to get there.

King is tough as nails and is the one kid who can play a tough man to man defense and brings all of the intangibles that you need to win and he goes from starting to not even seeing the floor. I understand a coach has to make in game decisions on the fly, but to make decisions on your rotation each game is ridiculous.

Not a good look coach!! Just my thoughts!

    Here's my opinion:

None of us are the coach. None of us are in practice watching the team everyday. TJ is the coach and sees what these players do in practice, so he gets to make the decisions. The decisions he has made are based on what he sees as the best fit for this particular group to be the most successful they can be. He is doing the best he can with the tools given to him, so everyone, please shut up! Let our first year coach do his job his way, and if he isn't up to par in 3 years, he'll be gone (I highly doubt it, though.) This is the team we have this year, and there is nothing any of us can do about it.

So, would you rather a coach set a rotation in stone and not mess with it no matter what the results are? Oh, and nevermind those pesky injuries.

Ok, I'm going to take my happy pill now.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but our starting PG right now didn't see the court for a month...even in garbage time. Our starting PG to begin the season is no longer on the team. We have a PG that was red shirted...no wait, you are now starting, no wait...you aren't seeing the floor anymore. Not to mention King, Flatten, Howell, etc. Injuries are one thing, but T.J. is throwing darts at the board right now...

Lots of new faces on the roster and on the coaching staff. Coupled with the fact we aren't winning as much as we'd all like. Keep throwing darts until you find the bullseye as far as I'm concerned.

If we're throwing darts, any chance one of those darts can hit a different defense, even if it's only 5-10 minutes a game

As far as the PG situation, they gave both of the 1st year PG's about an equal number of starts to show what they could do. After neither one did much to demand more playing time, they have gone to Orris, who probably doesn't have the natural ability that the freshmen do, but has experience. I don't think anyone can argue that the PG play has stabilized and been better since he took over. I can't blame the coaching staff for trying the freshmen before going with Orris, who is only here for this season. The coaching staff immediately getting a commit from Owen King for the 2018 class shows they weren't satisfied with the current PG situation. The JUCO PG just committed is a bridge to get the team to that point. The thing that worried me with both Gentry and the incoming JUCO are that they are both in the 5'9-10' range, which to me is too small to be a starting Div.1 PG. Fine for a player getting some minutes off the bench, but many other PG's fall into the 6'2-4 range. I'm sure a 6'4 Nate Wolters type PG would love playing 25-30 minutes a game against a 5'9 opponent. Owen King is currently 6'1 and still growing, and is also a highly recruited QB prospect. So he has the size and strength I would want at the PG spot.

El Darwich may be an injury situation rather than a rotation snub.

It will be interesting to see if the King benching is a one game situation, or if it continues. Hopefully he is back in the rotation in Tulsa.

Looks like they are just going to keep floundering thru the season. Not a good look for any potential blue chip recruits.

TJ specifically stated in the Omaha postgame presser that Sergio's was due to an injury

Potential playing time is a big attraction for recruits. In the two seasons before the class of Nate Wolters, Tony Fiegen, Chad White and Brayden Carlson arrived, the Jacks records were 13-20 and 8-21. The next year when Jordan Dykstra and Marcus Heemstra committed, the Jacks were 14-16. And if I remember correctly, many people were questioning whether Scott Nagy had a future coaching here, especially at the beginning of that period.

Yes I faintly recall this. Seems their was interest in Ryan Miller flying around here and elsewhere. Thank goodness our admin did not panic.

I like Orris so don't take this wrong but how much of an upgrade is Orris than Gentry? Orris is a little better but I don't know by how much. You are comparing a senior to a freshman. I think Orris is a better shooting(FG's) and more physical on defense. Would Gentry get better if he played more that 6 games? Would he have started shooting more since he and Orris had about the same 3-PT % and FT %? Everybody talks about giving the players and coaches time to get used to things, how about using that for this occasion?

min FG 3-Pt FT REB Ass TO st PTS
                            Gentry- 166 10-33 6-23 7-10 19 19 10 4 33
                            Orris- 177 18-40 2-7 21-32 15 20 15 4 59

Gentry shoots a lot more 3's and he wasn't hitting them and Orris was getting to the line. Gentry out rebounded him even though he is 5 inches shorter. He also had a better assist to TO ratio. Orris looks more under control out there though.

I just wonder how soon they will start playing man to man. If they don't do that, your height differential doesn't matter as much. It still does but if you have a 5'9, 6'4, 6'6, 6'8 and 6'9; you would think having one short player won't kill you. I remember when we were DII and we played Metro. They had a short PG that absolutely killed us. He was the Heather Seiler of their team.
Nate would kill anybody on out team regardless of their height. J.K.

Like I said I like Orris and I have faith that TJ will turn things around. I just am starting to wonder if it will be this season. Win the game on Thursday and I will feel better about this team.

You also gave me flashbacks to a very quick and small point guard Oakland used to have during the Keith Benson years. He used to torch us by just driving down the lane and getting to the rim. I really didn't like that guy.
