  • GDT: Jackrabbits vs Bison

A very familiar squad from Fargo visits Frost tonight. We might know who they are. Dexter Werner, king of hustle, continues to be an impressive basketball player for the bison. The bison(8-5) appear to go 7 deep with those players logging more than 13 minutes per game. They are averaging 69.5 points per game and holding the opponent to 65.3. The Jackrabbits are allowing 75.3 and scoring 72. The bison are making 31% of their long shots and 46.6% overall. Jacobsen is the best 3 point guy at 48.8%. He is also the best free throw guy at 76%. The bison came to Frost and ended the last long term winning streak 3 years ago. The only players that recall that day are Flatten and Severyn. Neither player was on the floor that night. Jackrabbits should continue to improve on their defense and continue the home winning streak by defeating the thundering herd. Go Jacks!!

This game will be on Midco and ESPN3.

Best to remember these are kids and they are doing everything they can to entertain us, be scholars, and all in all be great humans. Jackedforlife

I think the key will be whether or not Miller gets heated up from the arc. If he knocks down five threes, there's a good chance we lose. The zone should limit their success in the lane.

It would be great to see the ball go into Daum at least 2/3 of the possessions. Beyond Werner, NDSU is definitely lacking an inside presence. We can win the game right there unless their shooters get it going big time from the outside.

Miller has logged 28.6% from the arc.(18-63) He is shooting 38-68(56%) inside the arc. He is also shooting 38-56 for 68% at the line. He has not caught fire yet from the outside this year.

True, but that includes a very ice-cold start to his season. It's a different story for Miller the last 3 games (19 ppg). They badly need a scorer to step up and help Werner and he appears to be their best candidate. Jacobsen's disappearance after a very good freshman season continues to be a mystery to me. I thought he had MVP potential back then.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was Montana to end the last streak. Omaha also beat the Jacks that year in Frost before NDSU came to town. Doesn't change anything, but NDSU is not the team who ended the streak.

An interesting subplot to this visit is Assistant Coach Eric Henderson was a Bison assistant last year. Does his inside knowledge translate to an advantage for the Jacks. Might be an emotional game for him and the Bison!

You are right. Omaha even whacked the Jackrabbits the week before the bison game. It may be the last home loss.

This game should not be on a Wednesday during Christmas Holiday. Terrible scheduling by the league for the 2 premier schools

The same thing can be said for both Jack-USD games on Saturday.

Right. Really makes no sense. The SDSU/NDSU and SDSU/USD games have to easily be the highest attended games in the entire conference. Who the hell would schedule them for a time when the students aren't on campus?

I'm sure NDSU has wondered that the last couple of years. If you remember, The Summit League scheduled their home games with the Jacks during the break when there is a lack of students. The Summit just doesn't care when they schedule anything.

January 4, 2014 The Jackrabbits played Sunday(I think ) games at Fargo at the ice arena for a double header against the bison. There were no students and 3368 attending. How many would have been at the double header during school and class times? At least they made it a doubleheader instead of home and home split game. It has been happening and there must be a good reason or this is one the few brain farts by Douple.

A league at our level should do all it can to showcase its product. Treating the premier rivalries as "just another game" is a lost opportunity. Tonight we'll have at least 1,000 empty seats that would easily be full with better scheduling. Maybe 2,000. I'm one who would be there if this was a Saturday game. Tonight it's Midco for me.

This is spot on. I don't think you could be more right.
