Do you feel good about our defense?

I'm not terribly disappointed about the result last night, but really don't think our defense is anywhere close to where it needs to be to contend in the Summit.

I'd love to see us give up less 3's just like I'd love to see us make more 3's, get more rebounds, turn the ball over less, give tickets away for free and draw 5,000 fans per game. I can see that the strategy "is what it is" by this point.

We'll probably get better at the zone, but zone it is. I can always change the channel if watching other teams shoot more 3's than I'm used to ruins my day.

This is probably a coincidence, but....... I watched FW absolutely shred Indiana's man-to-man defense back in November. They were slashing to the rim like crazy - burning Big 10 defenders with ease. Indiana finally switched to a zone late in the second half and slowed FW down big time. It was interesting that this was right about the time we went all-in on zone defense.

We are 250th for scoring defense and 303rd for 3pt FG allowed.

347 total DI teams. Yikes.

Lost a little respect for Marshall when the Jacks cleared the bench with over two minutes to go and Wichita left the starters in jacking up threes. I get going for a record, but really doesn't mean much to me getting it that way. I realize the "if you don't like it do something to stop it" philsophy, but I still thought it was kind of a dick move on Marshall's part.

Marshall simply had some spread awareness. Trying to keep the local degenerates happy.

Predictable posts all the way from those that see the glass half empty and half full.

We got beat by a really good basketball team last night by 22. They are averaging wins by 34 points in previous home games.

Orris must have eaten his Wheaties yesterday because he was feeling it! The rest was pretty predictable. Still lots of work to do and they know it.

Games matter starting next Wednesday. That is where we will learn more about our team!

My biggest concern with coach otz- 2nd half adjustments....we may be one of the worst 2nd half teams in the country. If you look at our division 1 games we've only outscored the other team maybe 2 times in the second half.

I'm confused by some of your, and others posts. Since it seems to be all about Nagy I wonder; did we fire Nagy or did Nagy choose to leave for a new position?

We have a new coach and replaced our top 4 guards. We have a superstar in the middle who, if we go man to man and he gets pounded on will be limited to 25 minutes or less per night. I think TJ needs to get more creative in his defenses, and I hope he does as the season goes on. There are ways to play a zone, protect Daum but still be able to hound shooters. I think we get there but we aren't yet. T

his team is far ahead of where they were 3 weeks ago. As a fan I'm happy with where we are and I'm expecting a solid conference season with some ups, and some downs. What is getting old is the Nagy talk. He isn't coming back, he wasn't fired, it was his choice to leave, and I could care less about Wright State. Can we move on? Pretty sure I'm not alone in this way of thinking.

I do not think Coach Otz or Coach Nagy would try to hang their hat on that. Remember when we lost Nate Wolters? We would not win again. Players(and coaches) come and go every year. Instead of Nagy left the cupboard bare, let us look at what we put on the table with the inventory on hand(Daum & co.). That is the sign of a good cook(coach). The main menu(Summit League) is being plated in a week. Go Jacks!

I do not think Coach Otz or Coach Nagy would try to hang their hat on that. Remember when we lost Nate Wolters? We would not win again. Players(and coaches) come and go every year. Instead of Nagy left the cupboard bare, let us look at what we put on the table with the inventory on hand(Daum & co.). That is the sign of a good cook(coach). Nagy was smart and got out. He knew that there would be struggles this year so he struck while the iron was hot. Good for him.

Losing the 4 guards isnt an excuse. It is a reason. When Mate graduated there was a definite heir apparent at the guard position.

This team is already better than they were at the start of the season. They will only get better.

Actually, the Jacks lost five of their top guards from last year. Cory Jacobsen is gone, too. He didn't play much in games, but I understand that he practiced hard and helped make the starters better. I guess we shouldn't be surprised that this year's team still is figuring out the best combination and rotation at guard. The forward/post rotation seems set and is sound.

That's also why the zone defense is a big part of this team, the one area that we have that is solid is the 4/5 position. If they start getting in foul trouble, we are in deep trouble

I am not sure exactly why Nagy left, but I tend to think they would have worked hard and recruited some JUCO guards if he had stayed. I think Wright State was the right fit for Coach and his family. It was open and he applied, and they hired him. I think Otz will get things going if not this year then next.

This was once again apparent in the NDSU and USD games. It's seems very clear, the SDSU coaching staff is getting outcoached coming out of the locker room at half. Hopefully they see that and things improve.....soon.
