  • GDT:Jackrabbits vs. The Leathernecks

The Leathernecks no longer want a low scoring game like Molinari's defense of the old Leathernecks. They are averaging 74.8 points although some of the high scoring games were against questionable teams like Hannibal-LaGrange(94), UIC(84), Trinity Christian(79), Silver Lake(84), and Eastern Illinois(83). They scored 80 against Omaha in a loss as they participated in a running game against the Mavs. Covington is leading the Leathernecks again this year. They do have some talented guards that will give us some fits at times. Previously the Jackrabbits have been able to contain the somewhat undersized Covington. The shooting has been hot for the Leathernecks as they are averaging 46.2% from the field and 43% from the 3 point line. They also have been consistent from the charity stripe hitting 73%. ( Omaha did not send them to the line but 9 times while getting 32 shots of their own.) WIU may have had the game of their season when they defeated Wisconsin on the road since they have come short on games that they may have been expected to win. It is probably the deepest bench they have had in a long time as well since recent years have seen 10 or fewer players able to play due to injury problems or numbers on the team. Look for the Leathernecks to start 0-2 in the Summit as the Jackrabbit defense should contain and keep the score in the in the 50's or low 60's for WIU. Go Jacks!!

It's a good thing Marshall is back for this one. We'll need his defense against those guards. At full strength (Bittle too), this should be a comfortable win. Without him, WIU has the potential to make it interesting.

The Jacks have allowed the last 2 opponents to shoot 55%+. If they correct that today, they should get a 10+ point win.

Covington is only a junior?...Seems like he's been playing about 7 years.

Jacks look terrible 10 minutes into the game.

WIU leads 18-9; Jacks shooting 27%. WIU shooting 67%.

These refs are awful so far. All contact in the paint is being let go while ticky-tack **** on the perimeter is getting called. Missed at least 2 out of bounds calls so far.

Telly can't buy a bucket so far today. He's 0-6 from the field and 0-2 from the FT line.

WIU leads by 7, 3 min to go.

                      Reed's free throws...good grief.

Honestly, not playing terribly. Shots not falling, but we're moving the ball well and getting good looks. Shots will fall in the 2nd half and I see us pulling away.

                          Half: WIU 32, SDSU 27.

Jacks are lucky to be down 5 at half.

SDSU shot 30%, 3-11 from deep. 4-8 from the FT line.

WIU shot 43%, 2-7 from deep, 4-4 from the line.

Jacks -2 on the glass, +2 in turnovers.

Daum and Parks lead with 7 points each, Marshall with 6.

Covington lead all scorers with 13 points.

He needs to get it together. And the problem when he is constantly on the perimeter is we only have one person to go up for offensive boards.

He's gotten a couple of offensive boards this game already. Seems like an odd complaint.
