  • GDT:SDSU vs. Denver

The Pioneers have amassed an 8-5 OOC record. They are playing 10 players 10 or more minutes. There will also be 4 of those players who are freshmen. There are 3 seniors leading the group. We should expect a patient offense from the Pioneers as they execute the Princeton offense. The Pioneers are shooting 47.7% from the field which might be why they are collecting very few(4.6) offensive rebounds per game. The Pioneers defeated Weber St in Denver 69-68 one week before the Jackrabbits lost the scorefest in Utah. The patient offense of Denver will require the Jackrabbit defense to play to the end of each 30 play clock and keep the Pioneers from the easy shots that seem to evolve. Hopefully Marshall is at 90% or more today to bring back more offense for the Jackrabbits. The Jackrabbits should prevail in Frost. Go Jacks!!

Ahh Denver, how your deliberate offense can SLOW DOWN a game. Denver is dead last in the NCAA in # of possessions per game. I expect this one will be relatively close due to their style of play.

Hopefully Marshall can ease his way back into the lineup over these first two games.

        Half: SDSU 31, Denver 21.

Jacks shoot 35% (9-26), but go 10-10 at the FT line.

Denver shoots 50% (8-16) and 3-4 from deep. Denver committed 12 turnovers.

Parks and Marshall with a combined 2 points. Parks is scoreless and 0-5.

Interesting game. No FG for Parks or Marshall, both of whom missed time with foul trouble. Yet, the Jacks have a comfortable lead. Any lead is nice against a slow paced team like Denver. They are not built for big comebacks.

            Pretty Fugly half of basketball.

Marshall looks like he has missed a month of basketball, but then again, so does Parks. Took a while to adjust to Denver's match up zone, but the bench players stepped up and have carried us to a 10 point lead at halftime. Denver knocked down back-to-back-to-back 3s late or they'd be staring down a historically low scoring game.

Jacks probably won't have many opening halves where Tevin King will have more points than Parks, Marshall and Moffitt combined.

An 11-0 Denver run brings them within 37-34 with 12 minutes left.

                Jacks went 5:30 without scoring.

Someone is going to have to step up offensively here. Denver's D is getting more confident and aggressive with each empty handed SDSU possession. We are really struggling to get any sort of a rhythm. This style of play is exactly what Denver wants.

                    Marshall with a big 3.

Parks and Marshall combined 3-17 FG, 2-8 from deep, 10 points.

Our spacing on offense is less than good.

                              Final. 68-59 Jacks.

Denver's style of play gives a bad name to basketball, but we were able to fight through a rough shooting night. Glad this was Marshall's first game back to get his feet wet.
