Why does that concern you. If we join the BSC they have 8 member right now that meet that criteria (7 if Sac State Leaves), the Mid-Con has eight. Am I missing something?

Mid-Con has nine, actually...also not sure why it should be a concern. We're not looking to form a new basketball conference (at least I don't think so...;-)

Does Centenary count? I thought to be a "core" member you had to have played in the Conf. the past 3 or 5 seasons (can't remember), so I didn't count them. I could be way off base though. Either way the Mid-Con has more then enough.

          Go State!

Ah, you may be right about Centenary...it's been a while since I read the NCAA rules on that.

Not missing anything. Last I checked we weren't members of any conference, however.

Took your ornery pill tonight, eh, Jackmd?

I think if the rumors are confirmed that the GWC will be run by the Mid-Con office, the chances just went way up that we'll wind up there (here, that is, in KC) in a year or two.

No pills. Just don't want to get my hopes up and be let down. Not that a post-season appearance is crucial to my support. It will just be easier to recruit if we will be eligible in 5 years as oppossed to 8 or 13. I remain optimistic, I am only seeking confirmation of the rumor.

Truth or not, we are a member of a conference in BB right now?

                    Re: NCAA legislation

Well, technically, for a couple of more weeks anyway, we're a member of the North Central Conference for basketball, but I know what you mean.

I too don't think we'll be playing basketball in a conference for at least a couple of years. If I was a D-I conference I'd want to see if these no-name yokels from way up there had some staying power.

                      Doc,

Did I offend? If so I apologize, it was not my intent. I truely was asking why you had concerns. All the Conf. that we are looking (Missouri Valley, Horizon, Big Sky, Mid-Con) have more then 6 members so if we joined (and this rule change passed) we would be eligible for the Auto Bid (if we won the Conf.) in '09. I truly thought I may have missed something and was asking for clarification of your concern. Sorry if I came across as sarcastic.

                      Go State!

Maybe Jackmd's just working on his gruff and grumpy but basically loveable physician persona....

"He's a doctor, not a novelist, Spock!" (Assuming of course that you're not a novelist, Jackmd...)

                          Re: NCAA legislation

Don't mean to come across as offended. Maybe some of my comments are a reflection of the long weekend back in S.D. over which I spent a considerable amount of time and energy defending Fred Oien, Peggy Miller and SDSU's move to DI in general. My in-laws and most of their acquantinces are less than enthralled with the move. It really frustrates and pains me to see this pervasive and destructive attitude. Even the excitement of a new conference for FB and the possible rule change regarding BB failed to inspire the majority of the people I interacted with this weekend.

Fortunately, I have you guys as well as a core group of friends who fully support SDSU and the athletic dept. Sorry if I offended any of you. Just venting some frustration with the trip home this weekend. At least the Jacks entertained and came away with a win. Maybe I need to find a new place to stay when I come back home. Anyone have an open room??

Finally, I am nowhere near a novelist and I like to think my personality is more that of a well-rounded person raised in small town S.D. as oppossed to a stuffy, uptight doctor. Sometimes the less attractive character traits appear in type-written conversion. Give me a second chance, I'm sure all screw up and ask for a third.
