GDT: SDSU vs. Weber State

The season begins tonight against D1 competition. WSU is picked to win the Big sky in the preseason poll. Last year they finished at tie for 7th. They have been the preseason favorite 7 of past 8 years. They lost the first home game to Utah State allowing 15-2 run late in the game to lose 73-70. Their post player dumped in 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. We will see how our post players respond to a dominant player tonight. They also started a 6'9" r/fr at the 4, but he only logged 14 minutes against Utah St. WSU has redshirted 3 freshmen so they must feel they have enough depth with current squad. They shot 22-48 from the field and picked up 4 offensive rebounds in their loss. they shot 8 more free throws with their big man getting 10 free throws. It would seem there will be a deliberate game focused on their post as the primary target.
Parks seems to be questionable for the Jackrabbits. I would guess they want him healthy as can be for the road trip coming up that starts at Illinois St and ends at UMKC. It appears that Dykman and Gentry are the redshirts at this time. Flatten is probably still a month off. Tonight should give a decent measure of the team's readiness. Go Jacks!!

This one is a tall order without Parks and still trying to figure out who is going to do what in the post. I'd be very happy (and probably a bit surprised) with a win.

I think this game will come down to the wire. I'm not feeling very confident with Parks being questionable. Theisen, Daum, and Devine will need to play a big role this game in order for the Jacks to win.

If Parks does not play, the rotation may show innovation or more minutes from the starting guards. King has been a solid backup on defense and being around the loose balls. Scoring should come from other players. Telly should be ready to break out. Look for Marshall to get 35+ minutes if he stays out of foul trouble.

Wow do our posts ever have their hands full tonight. Bolomboy is not your typical Summit League center. Big challenge.

Good start by the Jacks. Glad to see Parks. Daum has shown some offensive flashes. Marshall has picked up right where he left off.

Jacks up 33-24 with 4:00 until half.

Great ending to the 1st half by the Jacks! Forcing a shot clock violation then a last second 3 by Marshall.

Bolomboy is certainly a beast but Devine somewhat slowed him down once Theisen got his 2nd foul.

Telly has really impressed me. He just isn't a shooter anymore. It looks like he can get to the rim whenever he wants and he is a heck of rebounder.

Parks hasn't done much on the offensive end. It would be nice to see him get going in the 2nd half.

45-33 Jacks at half!

Team defense has been fantastic. The only reason Weber State has 33 is because Bolomboy is a freak. You almost never see that combination of size, athleticism, and skill from a mid major player, and very few even exist at high majors.

Marshall and Telly were great in the first half.

Daum really has impressed me on the offensive end so far this year. He has the softest set of hands I've seen from a Summit League post since Bjorklund (not saying he is at that level yet). Defensive end he still struggles some and this game he's just overmatched, but he'll improve as he get more experience. Devine really did a nice job on Bolomboy when he was out there.

Parks looks more rusty than hampered, which is a good sign. Honestly played better than I expected he would.

Finish strong and we got this one.

61-45 Jacks after a Severyn 3 pointer with 12:22 remaining.

Defense has a few lapses and offense had a few poor turnovers to start the half, but they have ironed that out over the last few minutes of play.
