    Respect isn't given, it's earned.

Jacks need to go out and earn some respect, the old-fashioned way.

North Carolina Central a 7 seed and an RPI of 128. They apparently dont go by RPI when seeding.

Well, we are two years removed from back-to-back NCAA trips. They knew details about most other teams they talked about--a coach or player name, for instance. And, theoretically, it's their job to know about teams in the field, and SDSU was the #1 seed in our conference tournament.

So yes, I think that level of respect was, in fact, earned but not given.

The NIT Field, in RPI order (RPI as of Saturday, Mar. 14)

RPI, NIT seed, and Team name
            30. 1. Colorado State
            34. 1. Temple
            45. 2. Tulsa
            46. 1. Old Dominion
            51. 6. Iona
            54. 5. Green Bay
            57. 1. Richmond
            58. 3. Louisiana Tech
            59. 2. Stanford
            62. 3. Murray State
            64. 4. Illinois State
            65. 2. Miami (FL)
            66. 3. Rhode Island
            67. 2. Texas A&M
            68. 4. St. Mary's (CA)
            71. 6. Central Michigan
            73. 3. Illinois
            74. 4. Connecticut
            76. 7. UC Davis
            77. 4. Pittsburgh
            84. 6. Alabama
            85. 5. George Washington
            91. 8. South Dakota State
            93. 7. William & Mary
            102. 5. Arizona St.
            104. 5. Vanderbilt
            128. 7. NC Central
            138. 8. Bucknell
            145. 7. Montana
            165. 8. Charleston Southern
            170. 8. St. Francis (NY)

Going by the (nearly worthless) RPI, SDSU should have been the last 6 seed, not an 8 seed.

But, by the same lame RPI index, the teams who were really hosed by the selection committee were Iona and Green Bay.

Might do it with a better index than RPI, but the NIT seeding is obviously a magical mystery tour of some kind.

If Jacks are on, and win the first game, chances for additional wins spring up. Starting with the best rpi team in the NIT! Good grief.

So what are the odds that CSU has its best season ever, yet loses it final two games to SDSU? San Diego State bounced CSU in their conference tourney. I actually think the odds are pretty fair that they end their season this way.

They must not be a great defensive team. And they only won by 5 at Utah State who the Jacks beat by 3 in one of George Marshall's first games.

It's interesting when you look at their roster. They basically run 7 deep with those players averaging 20+ minutes per game. Of the 7, six started their careers elsewhere. Coach Eustaschy did a heck of a job molding this 7 together as they started the season 15-0.

I think we match up well except they have one more athletic big than we do. Reed has done an amazing job rebounding this season as an undersized 4. He is going to have his work cut out going up some bigger/stronger players.

CSU's top scorer/rebounder and arguably best defender is 6'8" 250. I'm guessing Cody will get matched up against him. That will likely leave Reed defending a RS Senior who is 6'8" 225, leads CSU in blocks, 2nd in scoring, and 3rd in rebounding. Their team rebounds well as they are +6.0 on the boards this year. It should be a wide open game as they average 72.1 points/game.

                          Why are you surprised?

SDSU has appeared in 13 NCAA sponsored MBB, WBB and FB tournaments. They have gotten screwed 12 times. They're going to get screwed a thirteenth time tomorrow night.

Why are *any* of us *ever* surprised when SDSU gets screwed? Ever?

On point for this exact instance of screwing over: Montana was given the same seed as SDSU in the NCAAs in 2013. You know. The year that SDSU beat #3 seed New Mexico and Montana didn't beat anybody at all. Montana got a HIGHER seed than SDSU in the 2012 NCAAs.

The RPI index is worthless. So much so much so in fact the NCAA does not use it to rank tournament teams. We all should stop referencing it as a way to judge a team getting "hosed."

Would probably make more sense to use RPI as a part of the equation rather than the "eye test" that the selection committee chairman referred to many times last night.
