My two cents on the last few games revolves around Marshall and rotation. Marshall hasn't been what we thought he was (according to Denny Green). His decision making is appalling at time and settles too much for outside looks. He's not a 2 guard and his assist numbers are awful. I understand everyone thought he'd be enough but right now, he hasn't earned all the time he's getting in my opinion. He was given the job by Nagy and it's clear he shouldn't be given 38 min per game. He doesn't have Larson's experience and it's clear he's a liability at times. When that happens, sit him and get him motivated. Entitled is how he's playing right now and he's killing us.
Rotation, I've got no idea what Nagy thinks a rotation is but it's frustrating. How Broman and Flatten have fallen completely out of the rotation basically as I watch Bittle do little and Telly fail to guard on a consistent basis, it's confusing and I'm sure more than frustrating to the bench. We need more aggressiveness on offense. As others have mentioned to give 50+ min to Horstmann and Bittle when they combine for 4-8/game isn't enough.
Now on the plus side, I do like the "no quit" in the team. Nagy needs to get them ready to play right away. My advice, you have 5 starters, they don't come out of the gate ready to go, you sit em down and 5 find five ready to go. Quite frankly, this team doesn't have 3 stars. Not sure it has any really. But Nagy treats them like they are and quite frankly, I feel they may be taking advantage of that "rope".
-Larson looked like a beast in the second half. If he could play like that for 25 minutes a game, SDSU is going to be very tough to beat.
-We need to find minutes for Theisen and Devine. If they foul out, they foul out. Larson will be gone after this year, and I'm not real confident in them as replacements at this point.
-Telly, Larson, and Parks are the only offensive threats I see on this team. We run the ball through Larson a lot, Parks is experienced enough to create shots, but Telly is going to need a little setup. IMO, he should be taking at least 10 shots a game, and as a freshman he isn't going to find them on his own.
-If Horstman was playing like Bittle, he would be a fixture on the bench for the rest of the year. Bittle needs to play better or take a break.
-How many times is SDSU going to lay 1st half eggs against rivals on the road? It has happened at USD pretty much every time we played since resuming the rivalry, and it happens every time we go to Fargo. IIRC, a few years ago we didn't even have a shoot around in the freaking cavernous dakota dome???? If the coaching staff is ho-hum, is it any wonder the team is ho-hum? Get up for a rival for crying out loud.
-I've said it before, is it any wonder the team is performing like this after all the Marshall will fix everything talk? I know, I know, that isn't what the coaches meant by their 3 seasons in 1 season talk. But these are 18-22 year old kids, they might not understand the nuance. I don't and I've been out of college for several years now.
Sorry for the over-the-top frustration, but yesterday's first half performance was a joke.

Not a lot to disagree with on this post. I agree with Theisen and Devine but I don't see them both as a replacement for Larson. I see Devine as the 5 next year with continued strength development. Theisen is going to be the 4 if Sevine is the 5. I've seen more flashes from him on the perimeter than in the post. Devine is not comfortable at all out on the floor. That being said, some of the lack of minutes seems to be certain matchups. Denver basically played 4 guards and NDSU played more 4 guards than not seemingly. Of course, we'd have some matchup issues on the D end which could be offset on the O end. Not a lot of imagination thus far however, from the coaching staff.
And as far as the 3 season "season" from Nagy, Marshall's performance thus far has made that statement more ludicrous than even I thought intitally.

Agree with most of that and also share your frustration. All i'll say about Devine is that i hope we're chasing a JUCO big for next year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to give up on Devine. I think his shortcomings are due to timing not talent. Too often, he is a half step slow, so he's out of position. When he is in position, he looks really good at times. The only thing that will fix that is more experience.

Agreed. I believe Devine needs to allowed to play through his mistakes more often. Anyone else notice his best performances seem to have come when Cody is in foul trouble?

I certainly hope you're right, and bigs do take longer to develop, but i don't see it at this time. He can alter some shots on defense but looks lost a lot of the time. On offense he is very weak with the ball.
I am discouraged that Flatten and Severyn aren't getting more time. Seems like the guys on the bench are so tight when they come in, knowing if they mess up they will be right back there.
Looks like their should be a lot of open scholarships for next season!
Are you suggesting there might be a few leaving the program? I don't think so. Flatten and Severyn know what they have to do to get more playing time and I think they will work through whatever is now an obstacle.

SDSU has a 7 man rotation come conference season? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

As bad as we Jacks fans feel today , it could be worse - we could be IPFW. They have also started 0-2 , losing at home yesterday to 4-10 IUPUI. I have a feeling that the winner of the regular season could very well have only 11 or 12 wins.
In the first half we couldn't get anything. No post points and especially nothing off the dribble attacking the rim. No offensive rebounds. So most of our looks were longer shots and they weren't falling. 24 points. ndsu was attacking off the dribble killing us with brown, dupree, alexander. Some important offensive rebounds too.
In the second half we were getting post points and even some scoring off the dribble and closer to the basket. The longer shots were falling too. Seemed like ndsu in the 2nd half went away from attacking the paint with brown, alexander, and dupree. They started settling a little bit from deep. Didn't shoot that good.
