Re: SDSU @ Denver The Summit begins

Final: Denver 76, SDSU 69. SDSU (9-6,0-1) travels to NDSU on Sunday.

Jacks lost this game in the first half.

DU shoots 54%, Jacks shoot 46%.

SDSU was 22-32 from the FT line.

Jacks -1 on the glass and +1 in turnovers.

SDSU with too many defensive lapses in this game. DU had many open shots and backdoor cuts to the basket.

Larson with 14 and 12, Bittle with 15 and 5, Marshall with 13 points but 0 assists. Parks with 9 and 4.

Too little too late. DU played a much better 1st half and hung on to win. Not a horrible loss but very disappointed in the first half effort and the D over all.

Any road win will probably be a big one this year. It's too bad something like poor FT shooting was a big factor in letting one get away.

NDSU looked decent against ORU tonight. They'll be tough to get on the road Sunday. Perimeter D will have to improve.

Interesting quotes from Coach Nagy after the game. He said he's having a problem getting the players motivated to play. He said it's a "him" issue and that it's "his" job to change the intensity. I completely disagree. In my opinion motivation must come from inside the team. My reason for this opinion is AAU basketball. Some of these players played in excess of 100 games a year leading up to college. It's just another regular season game in a half empty gym to the modern day player. You must have a player on the inside to help motivate and get the team ready to play. I think this is one of the biggest challenges facing the current day high school and college coach.

I have some doubts about the impact of AAU ball. Its here and that the big change that has changed the game forever. I would hope all the players are doing some soul searching themselves, and maybe we can come out of Fargo with a win.

I agree - he also said in the post-game radio interview that the team had practiced again and again some things they wanted to do offensively and defensively , but that the players came out and did almost the opposite of what they were supposed to do. In that case , playing time may be the only way to get their attention.

Tyler said there were about 500 SDSU fans at the game. No doubt Alums in the Denver area. Our guys can not complain about a quite gym with those fans being there, but I think bigticket mentioned some of the problems we are having and they seem real and we have to deal with them. Seems like we always have periods of funk but some how work through it.
