  • SDSU at Utah Dec. 23

We will be traveling, but my interest is officially now peaked. Utah is the real deal, having beaten Wichita State in OT and losing to Kansas 63-60 earlier this month. This will be an interesting test for this developing Jackrabbit team. Our group of young men will need to put some more efficient offense to be competitive in this one, because their defense will be tested.

These next 2 games will be brutal if the offense can't get out the Logan, Utah offensive slump

I'm not sure Utah is as good as their ranking. Utah beat an ordinary UNLV by 13 or so in their last outing. Clearly have to tune up the offense but not at the expense of the defense. I'd like to see us keep the score in the 60's. We have a nice shot to win that game.

I know our young posts are struggling with fouls. But there is something to be said about having a large number of fouls to give against a team like Utah where their 4's and 5's don't shoot free throws well at all.

Speaking of defense, the Jacks have 64 blocked shots so far this year (5.3 per game - ranked 32nd in the NCAA). Last year they had 102 all season. Devine is the difference. He already has 21, which is more than anyone on the 2012-13 team finished the season with and more than anyone but Larson (36) put up all of last year. This stat, of course, does not measure the number of shots affected - just those that were blocked.

Utah has lost 2 games this season. #16 SanDiegoStateU and #10 Kansas were the losses. They beat #8 Wichita St at home and UNLV in Vegas and BYU on the road. They have multiple(5) wins ranging between 35 and 60 points. They will be as long as anyone the Jackrabbits have faced this year including a pair of 7' players who will see the floor. If the Jackrabbits stay with the Utes, the Summit League could be on watch for the Jackrabbits. Go Jacks!

Utah is a very good team, I think you are underestimating them. They're center, I believe he's a freshman, is very active and athletic for his youth. They also have some exceptional guard play. This will be a tough, tough ball game for us to win.

I watched the game against KU. Utah got down by 21, but battled back with some great offensive efficiency and some stifling defense. They are a very good team. Their coach has installed a lot of NBA offensive set plays that aren't used normally in college. It will be a very different task then we normally see, just from a defensive assignment position.

Utah is rated #14 in AP and Coaches poll this week. Someone must think they have some potential.

Anyone know if this game is going to be on at Cubby's or BWW?

Tough one tonight. I'm just hoping we can keep it competitive. I said the same thing about Washington in 2011, NM in 2012 and Belmont in 2013, however.

I see that the Pac 12 Network feed is available online but I can't see what the charge is (if there is one). Any thoughts?

Barring an unforeseen problem hooking up online, Cubby's will have this game.

Tell me if I'm wrong. I believe the only way to get the game tonight is through the Pac 12 Network. First is that correct? Second the Pac 12 Network is only carried by Dish Network in SD. Is that correct? If so I'm guessing that it will not be available at any sports bars in Sioux Falls. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Also if Cubby's is going to have the game tonight how are they getting it? Thanks for the help.

I would like to know if any bars in SF are showing the game as well.

This is the kind of game where you need a colossal performance from your best player or players and a flawless supporting cast. Tough place to play much less compete and win. Will be interesting to see what approach Coach Nagy takes. Will it be a short bench with his top 8 guys seeing time or will he continue to go deeper using 9 or 10? Will he ask them to hold the ball and limit possessions or allow for quicker shots and open 3's knowing the Utah will likely sag in the lane and double team the post? Can the Jackrabbits continue with the defensive intensity and rebounding that will be required to step up to another level in order to beat the most talented team SDSU has faced this year? Hoping this is a good game.
